weight watchers and friendship

So far so good this week on Weight Watchers. Tonight we are having crockpot chicken fajitas and then going to a sports bar to watch a UCF football game. Last night I was able to make a big book of online recipes I found. Yes, last night was a long night! HeeHee!

Just posted on our adoption blog about community. But last night, was a very good night for me because I was able to catch up with my friend Rebekah who was working on my floor. SHe has always been one of my best friends at work but due to her growing family, schedules and other things, we have not been able to talk to each other for a very long time. We talked a lot about marriage, church and friendship in general and boy my idea of friendship has really changed.

The word friend is pretty strong. Friends are such a special gift that you have to take care of. I have not been the best friend to so many people and I am sorry about that. I am not sure when the last time I actually called someone to talk simply because I didnt want to bother them. Thats sooo not cool! Over the past year, I have made some good friends at church, work, online, blah blah blah. When I think of a friend, I think of someone I can be real with. Someone who wants to get to know the real Amy even with all the yuckiness inside.I have enjoyed letting people get to know the real me. I am not sure I have ever really been as honest with people as I have this year. I have been honest with my weight, infertility and have tried not to hide some of those feelings. Its very hard for me to be honest and real with people I do not know, but I am getting better. For someone to love me unconditionally is rare but awesome. I want to share my thoughts, even the not nice ones. What the purpose of relationships if you do not share the real stuff? I have a lot of acquaintance's at work and church who I think are awesome. I have some friends who are quick to share. I wish I was more like that. Sometimes my friends share a lot more than I do, and that's not fair. God created us to be real with each other, even when "being real" isn't pretty!

What I am learning is no matter how together someone has it, not many of us really have it together. But to me, that's what great about being alive. We can help and encourage each other and take joy in our relationships.

I am constantly learning.

Go sponsort my hubby

Hubby is coordinating a JDRF event at his work and is also participating in the Juvenile Diabetes walk. He has given himself a 300$ goal and has 290$ left of this goal to make. Michael takes interest in this charity for various reasons but mainly because he has diabetes. Ok, so I am hoping that you will go here
and donate. Each dollar counts but would love to see a lot of my blogging friends donate 5 or 10 dollars (or more). Come on! 5 bucks isn't a lot but might help in the research of diabetes!!!!!!

Its a Small World and need your input

SO last time I worked I got a phone call from another floor. It was Misty, a friend, another nurse and someone who attends our church. She asked me if we were still adopting from China! I said heck yeah! She was orienting a new nurse who adopted from CHina last year, used our agency and had some questions about special needs. I went to meet her and she rocked! So, looking forward to seeing her more. She also knows some of our First Friday friends!

Today, I went to work in the nursery and a lady tapped me and said "I know YOU!" I knew her as well. I have been sitting behind her in my WW meetings each week ! That was exciting.

Anyway, I need a new name for my blog. I need something more than just Random Thoughts. Any suggestions are welcome. Not sure if we will do a prize but I guarantee you will get some link love and if you don't have a blog, then there will be a post all about you!! Most of you know the real Amy and I want something that says something about me. It can be a phrase, song title, anything. I am just not creative. It can be a phrase from my blog or anything. If I get enough suggestions, Ill let you vote on the winner!

Ok, get your thinking caps on!

the Amazing Collection

Tomorrow is Women's Bible Study and we will be discussing Isaiah and watching the video for Jeremiah. I forgot I was going to some of the verses we are learning. This book of the Bible is full of information. Seriously, I didnt realize how many songs I listen to have lyrics that come from Isaiah!!

Anyway, the memory verse for the week was:
"'Come now, and let us reason together,"
Says the Lord,
"Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool
Isaiah 1:8

The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender

Sweet September book tour and give away

This is the second book in a series by Guideposts called Home to Heather Creek. The publisher gave me a hardback copy of the first 2 books and they were so good I read them both this weekend. If you just want to read a sweet story about a family, this is a wonderful series. See the bottom of this post for details!

Sweet September was a wonderful read by Tricia Goyer whom I have recently discovered. What a great writer. This book read like a TV show, I could picture the entire story in my head. I can not wait to read more!!!!!! This is another set of books I would totally recommend.

About the Blog Tour Contest

Since Sweet September is all about family, Tricia wants to meet yours. Leave a comment on Tricia’s blog tour post sharing who your favorite family member is and why - and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win William-Sonoma’s Pumpkin Harvest Loaf Pan & Quick Bread Set.

About the book: (Book 2 of the Home to Heather Creek series)

Harvest time at Heather Creek Farm is an exciting time, but the kids don't seem to be getting into the spirit. One day while he's wandering through the fields, Christopher stumbles across an old piece of metal buried in the ground. He doesn't know what it is, but he hides it in the shed.

That night, the garden by the house is uprooted. Who could have done such a thing? Charlotte is determined to find out, but is distracted when she gets news that Sam is failing school. The sullen teen is indifferent and won't study. He starts spending a lot of time with Pete. Though she loves her son dearly, Pete never finished high school, and Charlotte is afraid he'll encourage Sam to do the same. How can she help him get back on track?

A gripping story that examines the Stevenson family's history as well as its shaky future, Sweet September will bring you deeper into the loving community of Bedford and the deep ties of love that bind this broken family together. As they forge new connections, you'll be entertained, inspired, and reminded that God's grace can make all things new.

About Tricia:

Tricia Goyer is the author of twelve books including From Dust and Ashes, My Life UnScripted, and the children's book, 10 Minutes to Showtime. She won Historical Novel of the Year in 2005 and 2006 from ACFW, and was honored with the Writer of the Year award from Mt. Hermon Writer's Conference in 2003. weight loss challenge

So I joined the Chubby Chicks Weight loss challenge (see side bar) and its not too late to join. There are a few guys on there as well! She wanted us to talk about what we have been doing differently.

Ok, I have been planning meals but its not been a perfect week at all. I have had some free meals and I am sure my weight loss would be a lot more had I really been more strict.

This morning I had some egg beaters mixed with some onions and peppers, a slice of fat free cheese on my new bread. Total was 3 points and very filling. I am eating Natures Own high fiber bread. Its only 1 point for 2 slices. Seriously, cant go wrong with that! What else am I a doing? Trying to eat a veggie or fruit a couple of times a day and trying to go to the gym on the days I am not sleeping. So its all good. Bible Study is on Wed and then WI so we will see how it goes.

gift card to the Babys Room

If you live in Atlanta, head over to FISH website and look for the Babys Room or Babys Place ad .Click on it and sign up. They are giving coupons for a 25 dollar gift card for signing up for e-moms and even ask if you are adopting? Love it!!!

How do you hold someone accountable for their actions and behavior but also love them and not become judgemental. I think I have done a bad job as someone I once considered a friend. Ugh! I think my choices regarding her decision have not been a good example!

hint: book tour and give away sometime tomorrow!

my decision and the reasons why

*****Update below
Okay, read the post below so you can understand whats going on.

For various reasons, I am going to stay at my women's gym FOR NOW!

Tomorrow, I will tell the mgr why I almost left and that's not like me at all but I will tell him.
Since I will not be signing a contract and I am only paying 15 dollars a month, I will stay in my comfort zone. Michael will try to get me a week pass for his gym and I will try that out at some point. The bicycle class that was posted sounds very interesting.

The truth is I have been successful when working out at this place. I like the quietness and although it is small, it has what I need and I have been told that I will get personal training free (which is a plus).

Thanks for all the advice and honestly if I hear one more comment like the one I heard, I will leave without explanation. I would have said something today but there was a customer there and I bit my tongue and tried to be respectful

UPDATE: I did go work out and the dude was there. So he asked to talk to me and I said I told him what he said and that it really hurt my feelings. I told him I had asked several people their opinions and that many recommended me leaving. He sincerely apologized and told me he was just trying to say that other gyms are typical "meat markets" and that he no way was he trying to hurt my feelings. I did tell him exactly what I heard and that no one has ever talked to me like that. Anyway, that's that..Yeah for Amy. I never talk to people like that. It kind of felt good!

Yesterday and need some input

Ok, so yesterday was socially busy and I am NEVER socially busy. It started out by me going to the kickoff of the Women's Bible Study t church. I got there and they had an awesome breakfast laid out and I had a handful of grapes. Yummy!! So we had the intro and broke into our small groups. I am with the same girls as last year and I am so excited. Some of us met this summer for a Beth Moore Study. These ladies are so sweet and I am glad we are getting to know each better. We are doing the Amazing Collection, a study where we read the entire Bible and study it over 3 years. We are starting with Isaiah this year and I am so looking forward to this year. Lots of good stuff planned. I left a few minutes early and headed over to the weight watchers meeting.

Now, I have not had the best week. I had several really bad meals but I have been doing some laps around the nurses station at work. I was very very surprised by hearing I lost 4.6 pounds this week!!! Yippee. I am back to the weight loss before the cruise. Time to move on. I am thinking that every 25 pounds will bring a pedicure on!
After WI I had another great lunch with Donna. We hope to do this weekly as there is a Mexican restaurant next door. I had Chicken enchiladas, only ate one tortilla but next time will skip the guacamole. Its soooo not worth it!!

Came home, worked on cleaning, took some books back to the library, actually went to the gym and then ended the night with trivia!! Fun Fun!

Here is where I need your help. When I went to the gym, I took my letter with me. The letter was a "I don't want to renew my membership" letter. I walked in and the mgr looked at it first so I knew what was up. I go to a women's only gym that is less than 2 miles from the house. I am almost always the only one working out when I go there.

Now this guy wanted to know my reasons and I told him about getting a cheaper rate at Gold's Gym and the fact that I could work out with my husband.

Here was his response!
Just because you want to work out with your husband
doesn't mean you will!
If you stay, I will drop your monthly rate to 15 dollars a month!

I will help you reach your goals by training you for free!
Here was the kicker! When you go to a men and women's gym, there will be a lot of people who are already fit and they will be watching you and staring at you while you work out. Now, fluffy people know people stare, it doesn't matter if they are at a gym or not. But I did not need this pushy dude to tell me this. That ticked me off.

if i continue to stay at my gym , I rarely see him.
I do feel comfortable with the equipment and I
wouldn't have to worry about trying this Gold's Gym out.
What would you do? How would you feel?

Book Review, contest, and a book give away

Get Cozy Josey by Susan May Warren

so my review is below. In order to win a copy of the book, leave a comment here and tell me the last book that you read. The publishing company will be sending the book to the winner!!!!

I loved this book. I loved the story line, the characters and the location. If life seems to just be flying by and you can not seem to get a handle on things, you will relate to this character. Not many books make me giggle out loud, but I could picture Josey so clearly! HAHA! Susan May Warren could easily become one of your favorite authors!!!!

Scroll down for the authors very cool contest. Also, if you are looking for new blogs to read, check out the others on the book tour. Fun stuff!!!!!!

About the book: How do you get cozy when your new "home" is a frozen tundra? Josey's dreams of small-town Minnesota bliss melt away when her hubby's relocated to a Siberian village. No indoor plumbing...or junk food! But this feisty former missionary knows how to multitask: juggling toddler twins, empowering local housewives, spreading God's word - no worries, Josey. It's finding time alone with the man of her dreams that will take some real work!

Story behind the series:

Behind the Pages

“Why don’t you write your life story?” During my eight years as a missionary in Russia, friends from all over the world, in response to my letters, would pose that question. I’d shrug, saying….I’m not sure how to do it.

Fast forward three years. Chick lit is beginning to hit the shelves. An insightful editor at Steeple Hill challenged me to try my hand at this new genre. I thought -- what would I have to write about – missionary stories?

Thankfully, she had vision, and when I proposed an idea about a single missionary headed to Moscow for a year, she embraced it. Finally I’d found a venue for my story…although fictionalized…mostly.

I laugh that finally, I got to write about all the fallacies, all the frustrations, and all the foolishness of being a freshman missionary. Mostly, I got to write about the one thing that God taught me – that He’d been at work in my life to bring me to this place, and the places beyond, all my life. And that I didn’t have to be perfect. I just had to surrender and trust.

Just like Josey.

And in Chill Out, Josey, I let the adventure continue with more of my hilarious (at least I think so!) adventures as a pregnant woman navigating the bus, the subway and most of all LIFE in Russia. I hope you'll laugh (and cry!) with me/Josey as she tries to figure out just how to stop worrying about life...and just learning how to CHILL OUT, JOSEY!

Rough weekend

Tonight I will go in for my 3rd night in a row and although its been a pretty easy weekend, its been emotionally draining. In my 7 years at CHOA, I had to do something I have never done before nor do I ever want to do it again. Ok, I am warning you, sad post ahead.

I had a patient, I shall call her "C"who was admitted for a brain tumor. Newly diagnosed. All this family knew was it was in her head and were hanging out for diagnosis and observation.
She had an MRI and we were waiting results. Dr. Reisner, my favorite doctor and neurosurgeon patted my shoulder and said 'Amy, its bad, really bad." Be prepared. This is another wonderful family." Dr. Reisner is an awesome, honest doctor and I did not know what to do with this info. Usually, its a day shift thing. Mom was at Walmart when Dr. Reisner came to talk and he talked to dad. He let dad know the tumor was inoperable and on her brain stem and that the oncology doctors would talk with him tomorrow. Dr. Reisner asked me to call the chaplain and then he had to go into surgery.

Mom and her sister came back from the store and we found a quiet place to talk. The chaplain asked me to go in with her and I immediately started praying. Dad told mom but was not clear at all, so I had to step in and explain them. Thank God for chaplains. I truly felt like I was having an out of body experience. So, I had to explain exactly what the Dr told me in a room. You have to know that mom is due to deliver baby number 5 any day now so I had that on top of everything. We sat in this room with the family while the chaplain prayed. I could only tell them exactly what the doctor told them but also wanted so badly to give them some hope but didn't want to give them any false hope. I listened to mom cry out "Are you giving me this new baby to make my goodbye easier"? I wish I was making this up. I am so glad I am working 3 days in a row so I could get to know this family and little girl. Their family was forever changed the other day.

Sunday afternoon, they learned the tumor is one of the worse you can have and that even with radiation they are looking at a year or two at the most. It is surreal. Please pray for this family and their support system. Mom needs to give birth this week so they can make plans for treatment and other decisions.

God is good. I want them to see that. I wish I could have done more.

Anonymous post

Ok, this is the first time I have gotten a comment like this. Usually I would not even post it or give it some attention but I wanted to share it.

The comment was " Why even bother blogging if you aren't going to be honest" This comment didn't really match with the post, but anyone is free to comment whatever they want. Now I am not sure what this person meant but i am thinking she or he thinks I may be a bit too positive.

Want some honesty about me? Here ya go!

I am not perfect, nor do I want to me. I hope that I honestly admit my mistakes.

I have secrets. Okay, I have really not done anything illegal, but there are things that I have done that I really do not want to admit.

I gossip. at work. A LOT

I am having a hard time loving or even liking a coworker due to a personal decision. Her decision has impacted the workplace, and I am judging. I do not want to.

Do I cuss? I have said a few swear words, sorry

Do I drink alcohol? Yes i have had some alcohol.

Have I questioned God? Have I doubted God? I have questioned God, but I have not doubted Him. I have learned through others experiences that God can bring sunshine through the darkest moments. It may take a lot of time, but He does. His mercies are new every day!

Whats our marriage like? Oh we have our problems. We bicker over the dumbest things and most of that is my fault but I love my husband so much and grateful that God brought him to me. We do have a lot of fun together.

What you don't know about me is are my insecurities. I have a lot of them. A lot of them have had effects on personal paranoid.

I do not like people to be mad at me. I will do anything to make things "right" and when that is out of my control, I feel horrible.

I hate to be late. really. Its beyond bad. I get really really upset when we run late.

I like to eat, heck, that's why I am on Weight Watchers.

I wish I had better control of spending.

I stink of driving in big cities.

My sarcasm offends some people

I can be judgemental. I do not want to be, but it happens.

I am Christian and I am a hypocrite. Sometimes you will read things on my blog that are my honest heart felt thoughts and sometimes they may not be nice. If you do not like my honesty, you do not have to read my blog. My blog is my therapy. I liked what Steven wrote one time, that he was trying to get comfortable in his own skin. I am learning to love the Amy God created and am trying to glorify Him with my words and actions. I will always struggle with this. You will never hear me say, I have got it together but I will always strive for it.

I will never comprehend God's love for me. Nor do I want to. What a gift!

So, dear anonymous, I hope this was a bit more honest. I want to be more like blogging Amy. I am not here to make everyone happy, although I want that and I have realized that no matter how hard I try, there will be people who do not like me. Thats okay. I am learning to love unconditionally

Friday, September 05, 2008

I am attempting to figure the twitter thing out, Steven and prompted me to do that and since his blog encouraged me to start mine, I figured I should try it. Seriously, he also got me into facebook.

Persuasive dude isn't he? Anyway, he is taking a blog break but I very much encourage you to go and read some of his older posts. There is some good, honest posting there?

What is twitter? I have no idea how to describe it. You get messages throughout the day about what people are up to and since I am so nosey, this could be good!

Come find me !

Weight Watchers, lunch and lyrics

So today I did something different. I met a friend at WW, we weighed in, had lunch and went to the meeting. I loved this. Not only did I spend some good quality time with a good friend (thanks again Donna, you ROCK) but I lost 3.6 lbs! Not bad I say.

So I am running on about 90 minutes of sleep and will soon crash.

I have really been paying attention to music lyrics lately. Sometimes I will have a favorite song that I sing to but I don't really know what I am singing. I noticed it Sunday when they played one of my favorite worship songs (I call it the Oh No song, but that's not its name) and listened to the words and was amazed at how quickly my eyes began to water. Music is powerful. It can give me hope or take me back in time or just give me a reminder of how blessed I am.

This past weekend, we went to Celebrate Freedom and I really enjoyed Chris Sligh. He is a great songwriter and I spent some time just reading the lyrics. Well done I must say!

Random Thought: This weekend for some reason, I have really been missing Lucy. I went back and read the posts after she died and the quilt overwhelmed me again. I used to wonder why people blog about their dogs but dang, I was so emotionally attached to my pooka puppy. I miss all of her right now.

There is a point to that. I get in the car today and on the radio is a song I had not heard in 10 years, when I went on a college short term missions trip to New Orleans. I have not heard the song since then so it was very odd that it was playing.

Here are the words (cool music too, check it out sometime)
I know there are times
your dreams turn to dust
you wonder as you cry
why it has to hurt so much
give Me all your sadness
someday you will know the reason wy
with a child-like heart
simply put your trust in Me

Take My hand and walk where I lead
keep your eyes on Me alone
don't you say why were the old days better
just because you're scared of the unknown
take My hand and walk

Don't live in the past
cause yesterday's gone
wishing memories would last
You are afraid to Carry On
you don't know what's comin'
but you know the one who holds tomorrow
I will be your guide
take you through the night
if you keep your eyes on Me

Take my hand and walk where I lead
Keep your eyes on me alone
don't you say why were the old days better
just because you're afraid of the unknown
take my hand and walk where I lead
you will never be alone
faith is to be sure of what you hope for
and the evidence of things unseen
so take my hand and walk

Just like child
holdings daddy's hand
don't let go of mine
you know you can't stand
on your own

I needed this. I tend to live in the past, trying to remember the good times (which is important) but sometimes I am afraid there wont be days as good as the ones that have passed. I needed this.
Lyrics are cool!

Ok, so I have worked the last few nights and the past week, I have been maintaining the points for the WW program.

Trying to figure out whats going on. I have had the tendency to go a long time without eating which has made me light headed and hyper. ha, imagine that! Any, I get home from work around 8am and I get usually a 1-2 point snack. I go to bed and then wake up around 4 and have another low point snack before going to work. I do not eat again until about 11 or 12 which is not good. I told you a lot of my issues are mental and I need to work these things out.

I also think I need more protein in my diet. Weigh in is Wed and I am looking forward to it actually. I have been keeping up with the water.

The good thing is that I have gotten a lot more fruits and veggies in than ever before and made a soup that another WW member recommended.

All ya need is
32 oz of Fat free chicken broth
16 oz jar of salsa
large bag of frozen veggies.

Mix it up and bring it to a boil and cook for about 15 minutes. I dont like tomato based soups and I love this. I may even had more veggies next time.
Ok, thats my update
