President Obama

Ok, so I did not vote for the man. I was not an Obama supporter. He has a lot of view and opinions that I disagree with. But as an American, I choose to support this man and his team. Complaining about what might happen isn't going to change anything and turning to fear doesn't help at all.

Regardless of your political views, I think we should all respect the office, his position and the fact that there is a beautiful family in the White House. The one thing that President Obama has done is give people hope and bigger dreams, and thats really a good thing. I will pray for this new President, his family, all of those surround Him. Thats the one thing we can all do together.

Complaining about the election, the new President, his views or his past isn't going to bring our country together, but just further drive us apart. I choose to support and respect him.

To end, I found the prayer that was used by Rick Warren during this historical day.

Let us pray.

Almighty God, our Father, everything we see and everything we can’t see exists because of you alone. It all comes from you. It all belongs to you. It all exists for your glory.

History is your story. The Scripture tells us, “Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God. The Lord is One.” And you are the compassionate and merciful one. And you are loving to everyone you have made.

Now, today, we rejoice not only in America’s peaceful transfer of power for the 44th time. We celebrate a hingepoint of history with the inauguration of our first African American president of the United States. We are so grateful to live in this land, a land of unequaled possibility, where the son of an African immigrant can rise to the highest level of our leadership. And we know today that Dr. King and a great cloud of witnesses are shouting in heaven.

Give to our new President, Barack Obama, the wisdom to lead us with humility, the courage to lead us with integrity, the compassion to lead us with generosity. Bless and protect him, his family, Vice President Biden, the cabinet, and every one of our freely elected leaders.

Help us, O God, to remember that we are Americans, united not by race, or religion, or blood, but to our commitment to freedom and justice for all. When we focus on ourselves, when we fight each other, when we forget you, forgive us. When we presume that our greatness and our prosperity is ours alone, forgive us. When we fail to treat our fellow human beings and all the earth with the respect that they deserve, forgive us. And as we face these difficult days ahead, may we have a new birth of clarity in our aims, responsibility in our actions, humility in our approaches, and civility in our attitudes, even when we differ.

Help us to share, to serve and to seek the common good of all. May all people of good will today join together to work for a more just, a more healthy and a more prosperous nation and a peaceful planet. And may we never forget that one day all nations and all people will stand accountable before you. We now commit our new president and his wife, Michelle and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, into your loving care.

I humbly ask this in the name of the one who changed my life, Yeshua, Isa, Jesus [Spanish pronunciation], Jesus, who taught us to pray:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

I agree Amy. I didn't vote for him either, but I'm praying that God touches his heart. I'm also praying for America and that he does right by all us.

That Benediction though really threw me. It wasn't quite what I thought it would be.

I will have to go find that!

Ok - I totally voted for him. It was not a decision that I took lightly and I had solid reasons for doing so. As an Obama supporter, I appreciate the sentiment of putting aside our differences to work toward the greater good.

I just dont think we should be those who are for and those who are againsy Obama. there is something wrong about already dividing us. We are a country and I hope we can just be Americans

I think that Obama, as our president, needs to make a stand and correct all of those who have labeled him our, "african american president" or our "black president". He is our PRESIDENT, period!

I believe that would go a long way in race relations. As a nation we have to let go of all of this identification with skin color. I fear, if Obama reinforces this identification with color then any chance we have of moving forward will take be stagnated.

Of course this is just my opinion. I did not vote for this man but as an American, he is my president, and I only hope and pray that he will guide our nation through the current crisis and help us to become the strong power that we are.

Trust me Obama will be an extraordinary president, he is already a great leader, if you have any doubt of this just go back to your DVR and replay the innaguration. Did you notice how many people gather to welcome him as our 44th president. Not to mention how many TV's or in my case coputers were on watching the historic moment unfold.
I am sure I supported and voted the right candidate.

As someone told me today, there is a reason President obama is president. I do not place my trust in one man or base the fact that the majority of the people chose him.
I do believe that God will use this man to do great things and that is where my hope is1

But what a beautiful and historical day and I am hopeful and proud to be an American. I hope and pray that we all feel united again!!!! Ill email you later, I have a question for you!!!

Thanks for sharing. I didn't get to watch the festivities yesterday because I had to travel for work. I totally agree with you. It is time we Christians put some action to our words. The most important thing that we can do for President Obama is to pray for him. That is our biblical responsibility plain and simple!

Wow Amy I couldn't agree more. As a conservative Christian I didn't vote for him either. But you are right. And thank you for printing the prayer!

I've never been to your blog, thanks for commenting about my daughters wedding! :)
