Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Thirteen Things about Amy
This week since this is the time of year to give, I am going to list 13 c harities that I would love
to give lots of money to as well as the reasons why

1…. Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta This is where I work. As per hubbys blog, according to Forbes, we are the 3rd best Pediatric Hospital in the country. I am honored to take care of the patients and families that I do.

2. Make a Wish Foundation Many Patients of mine have been given trips which has brightened their lives. Make a wish provides dreams to children with long term illnesses

3.Salvation Army- I would love to be able to help provide things for others

4. American Brain Tumor association I have taken care of so many patients with brain tumors that I want to help find a cure

5.American Cancer Society This effects so many people each year

6.Caringbridge Most people dont know of caringbridge. They provide websites for patients and families. Many families tell me how therapeutic this is to them

7.Epilepsy Foundation ANother diagnosis I have learned a lot about over the last 5 years. Seizures not only effect the patient, but all who know the child

8.Give Kids the World Many of my families have stayed here and have loved it

9.Habitat for Humanity I would love to be involved in this and help families get into new homes

10.Toys for Tots I want to spend lots of money here. How cool would it be to provide every child with a dream toy?

11.Ronald McDonald House This provides a place for families to stay when their children are hospitalized. It really takes a stress off of the families

12. Atlanta Community Food Bank Enough said. They provide food for thousands year round. Another thing I would love to be a part of

13.World Vision they sponsor children in countries all over the world to provide clothing, food and education

There are so many more I could mention and I wish I could help each one. Take the time to put yourself in others shoes this holiday season.

Organization ideas, etc

I need help. Lots of help. I need to get organized. Any ideas? Im thinking about trying Flylady again and I am hoping she will not kick me out. Seriously, my dad is the most organized person in the world, we are all wondering why I didnt get it from him. I am just venting. My hubby does his best and Lucy doesnt make it any better. We have been in our home for 2 years now, and we still have boxes to unpack. By the time we leave for China, I really want our house in better shape. I love my home, I just need better organizational skills?????

Weekend events

Well, I worked Fri and Sat nights and it was pretty uneventful except for some unusually sad cases that had my brain full both nights. Sunday morning, I got home after a Publix run and helped clean the house for the arrival of sister Kelly and family. I went ahead and called in to work (i didnt say sick)because I dont get the chance to see them that much and they didnt have much time. I think I slept for about 60-90 minutes before they got there and we had a great time with Janie 5, Seth 4, Owen 17 months. Owen found the kitty litter box although he didnt get the chance to touch..Thank God. After lunch, we chatted and let the kids decorate the bottom of the tree. They fought over who put the pretty ones up. I should have a pic up soon.

After they left, we watched some movies as told my Valtool or aka my husband. Had dinner, watched some more movies and then I crashed and woke up at 10am this morning. MIchael is getting off early so we should be able to venture out today.

Work is pretty good. We are having our Christmas gathering December 10th including a Christmas lunch thing followed by movie watching with friends. IF you are available, I hope you stop by. A good time was had by all

OH, the journal entry was not done by me..I googled Christmas movies last night and thats what it pulled up. I just added my opinions on some.

Christmas Movies

Apparently, there are a lot more movies than I previously listed. Its now 430 am at work and honestly I am bored..The patients are asleep and I am done chatting..Just wondering what your thoughts are on these.. My thoughts on these will be in red. If no one reads this, its okay. I am bored.
Found this on the internet:

Bad Santa . may be the trashiest Christmas movie i have seen. It makes fun of a little boy and a little person...not cool..there was one funny line in this!
Bishop's Wife, The (1947) -- An angel helps an Episcopalian bishop rearrange his priorities. I have never seen this
A Christmas Carol (1951 and later versions) -- Charles Dickens' ghostly meditation on the holiday. A classic. I wish I had time to watch this every year
Christmas Child (2003) -- A life-sized nativity leads a man to learn about his past.
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) -- Fibbing columnist must entertain war hero for the holidays.
A Christmas Story (1983) -- All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. Enough said. I could watch this the whole season. I love the kid in line behind Ralphie at the mall
Christmas with the Kranks (2004) -- With daughter away, parents decide to skip Christmas. YOu cant skip Christmas..Apparently this is a book. I didnt read it..I liked the movie
Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) -- Furry green creature wants to ruin the holiday. The Soundtrack rocks. I love Whos
Deck the Halls (2006) -- Neighbours fight over who has the best Christmas lights.
Elf (2003) -- A human, raised at the North Pole, searches for his family in New York. There are so many one liners in this movie. I wont even start but I loved this movie
Ernest Saves Christmas (1988) -- Everyman-type Ernest helps Santa. I actually forgot about these movies
The Family Stone (2005) -- Uptight woman wants acceptance from eccentric clan at Christmastime. Sara Jessica Parker was in this. I have no need to buy this movie. It wasnt what I expected at all
Holiday Inn (1942) -- Musicians prepare for a white Christmas at cosy lodge.
I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998) -- A college student finds it hard to get home for the holidays. There are 2 7th Heaven stars in this. I think I am the only who saw this. I really liked it
It's A Wonderful Life (1946) -- Classic tale, climaxing at Christmas, of a man who gets to see what his hometown would be like had he never lived. Just started watching this a few years ago but how can you not like it?
Jingle All the Way (1996) -- Dad, while searching for season's hot toy, finds season's true meaning. Never saw the whole thing
Joyeux Noël (2005) -- World War I trenches go silent during the "Christmas truce" of 1914.
Miracle on 34th Street (1947), remade (1973 & 1994) -- Macy's Santa, with help from the U.S.Postal Service, restores little girl's faith. Loved both of them, but I prefer the first
The Nativity Story (2006) -- The story of the first Christmas.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) -- As usual, Griswold family plans turn to disaster, this time at Christmas. How can you not watch this every single year and not laugh?
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) -- Inhabitants of Halloween land do a number on Christmas. Michael had me watch this last year and although its not your usual Christmas movie, I liked it
The Polar Express (2004) -- Magical train takes riders north. It has a few boo hoo moments but what a great movie..Saw it at IMAX last year with 200 preschoolers with colds
Prancer (1989) -- Girl nurses wounded reindeer. This is old..I remember it. I liked it
Preacher's Wife, The (1996) -- Remake of The Bishop's Wife. One of my favorites of old times. Whitney did a great soundtrack and I loved the story line
Remember the Night (1940) -- DA falls for Christmastime shoplifter.
Scrooged (1988) -- Dickens' holiday spirits visit cynical TV exec. Another classic. cant wait to watch this again except that one lady still gets on my nerves
Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) -- Biopic for the fat man in the red suit. Loved it..Will watch the 3rd movie sometime this season..
The Santa Clause (1994) and sequels -- Santa's accidental killer takes over his job. Even better than the 1st because it had the cute kid in it and the chick from Friends
Surviving Christmas (2004) -- A young millionaire pays a family to spend Christmas with him. Aflleck was in it and it wasnt as bad as reported. Will watch it again. Wont buy it
Trapped in Paradise (1994) -- Kindly town's hospitality melts Christmas burglars' hearts.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas (1914) -- A boy gets a ride in Santa's sleigh. I saw it but dont remember it
Unaccompanied Minors (2006) -- Board kids make up thier own holidays while stuck in an airport after Christmas.
We're No Angels (1955) -- A trio of escaped convicts helps a man and his wife avoid financial ruin and help their daughter find romance on Christmas Eve.
White Christmas (1954) -- As in Holiday Inn, musicians bring Irving Berlin's lyrics to Vermont lodge. I still havent seen it, but Valerie said it was good and she loves Christmas as well, so I guess I will watch it
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983) -- A church Christmas pageant touches the hearts of a family of jeuvenile deliquents. I saw this years ago. Remember the book? Many childhood memories here
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) -- Charlie Brown searches for the true meaning of Christmas, by directing a Christmas play while shunning the hyper-comercialization of Christmas.
The Christmas Box"" (1995) -- Based on the bestselling book of the same name, a couple and their daughter move in with a widow and discover a box containg the answer to the first gift of Christmas. This was on last year and I watched it. I loved the book but this was even better. If you have on demand, it should be on again. JOhn Boy is in it. I think he directed it as well
The Christmas Secret (2000) -- Scientist tries to make reindeers fly.
Home for Christmas (1990) -- A thief befriends a young boy at Christmas.
The Homecoming: A Christmas Story (1971) Pilot episode of [[The Waltons]] where John Boy searches for his father on Christmas Eve.
The House Without a Christmas Tree (1972) -- A widower, still grieving from his wife's death, refuses to allow a Christmas tree in the home, to the dismay of his young daughter.
Like Father, Like Santa (1998) -- Greedy business man travels to the North Pole to takeover Santa's workshop.
Mrs. Santa Claus (1996) -- Santa's wife ends up in New York in the early 1900s near Christmas.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) Claymation adaptation of the popular song where Rudolph, and Hermey the Misfit Elf, overcome rejection for their differences and help Santa Claus make his Christmas Eve trip. Yeah for Rudolph. Another classic
Stealing Christmas (2003) -- A criminal hides in a small town and takes a job as a Santa.
Santa Jr. (2002) -- Santa's son, mistaken for the 'Christmas Bandit,' is held under house arrest two days before Christmas.
Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus (1974) -- An animated account of young Virginia O'Hanlon's letter to the editor inquiring on the truth of Santa Claus.

Black Christmas (1974, remade 2006) -- A stranger terrorizes sorority girls during the holiday break.
Bush Christmas (1947, remade 1983) -- Aussie children quest for stolen horses at Christmas time.
Die Hard (1988) -- on Christmas Eve, terorists seize control of an LA skyscrapper. My hubby has been telling me this was a Christmas movie for a long time. Havent seen it nor do I plan on seeing it
Die Hard 2 (1990) -- Terrorists take over an airport at Christmas Eve.
The Family Man (2000) -- Flimsy remake of It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Loved this..The little girl was stinkin cute..Wonderful
Gremlins (1984) -- Bad things happen when Christmas gift gets wet. If Die hard is Christmas movie, then I guess this is as well
Holiday Affair (1949) -- Romance blooms between a young widow and a sales clerk at Christmastime.
Home Alone (1990) -- Accidentally abandoned kid defends home from holiday burglars. It just me, but this was really Christmasy. I loved it! I think I will be watching it by myself this year

Jack Frost (1996) -- Dead serial killer comes back as snowman.
Jack Frost (1998) -- Dad gets second chance as snowman. This was okay..It was a sweet movie
Lethal Weapon (1987) -- A young suicidal cop spends the holidays with a veteran officer and his family.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) -- Cult film with self-explanatory title.
The Shop Around the Corner (1940) -- Bickering store clerks pine for pen pals as holidays approach. This has to be the place from YOu've Got Mail, right?

Christmas videos and breaking eggs

Michael has some old Christmas videos up and one I had not seen before. I thought I had seen them all but one was new to me..

Check it out here

By the way, I made Thanksgiving dinner for myself, Michael, Peter and and Gary since family was not in town.I think it was very successful. I did boil some eggs for the gravy, drained the water and put them back on the stove and turned the burner off. I began to boil the potatos until I hear Splat and turned around and my boiled eggs blew up..Uhm, next time I will check to see what burner I turn on

Amys truly Random thoughts

I haven't posted anything serious in a while and I am not sure this will make any sense to you.
I have doing a lot of thinking about myself and how people view me. I think the 2 are totally different and I am not sure if that is good or not or if I should even work on that.

We had a counseling session where it was made clean that I have a strong personality. Many people do. At work, I am the laid back, nonassertive type of nurse. That's just me. I do have a few OCD things about me, but I am very much a type B personality. Its always easier to pick out things you don't like about others and its the same with me. I have many issues, may people know that. I don't mean, like hidden secrets in a closet, or issues from my past I need to work on. I rarely trust people, even my friends. People call me paranoid. I try to be responsible for others actions. If my sister or brother ever made a comment to someone that was mean, I would quickly add "what he meant was.." I don't like to see people hurt. I cry easy. I cry really easy on really stupid things..For example, I boohooed the entire viewing of Monsters Inc. I don't know what.It was not hormones. But my niece Janie was about 2 at the time, and she looks just like Boo. It was horrible when the monster scared her. That's a whole story.
Another example, Michael and I watched the movie Radio. As soon as Cuba Gooding Jr appeared, I used every napkin we were going to use for our popcorn. I find it odd I never cried this easy when I was single. My friends always knew I put up a front and pretended I didn't care much. I hate to see people made fun of in the movies, tv or life. I put myself in their shoes and wonder how they feel. I hate that feeling. Am I totally whacked.

I think about this coming season and the kids who don't have Christmas, who don't have a family. I want to fix that. In college, I "adopted" many families and bought Christmas gifts for the families and kids. I want to do that again. I want the money to help others. I want to see people smile. I want people to have what I have. I don't want to cry anymore. I have to turn off Katrina shows because of videos they show.

I know that many people are like me and cry over these things. But tell me, how many people cry at the Foldgers coffee commercial when the son comes home from college and wakes his family up by making coffee? That's just wrong. Anything, that has these family "moments" makes me tear up. Perhaps its the fear of not having these moments. I had a childhood full of wonder and magic and surprise. My parents introduced me to the love of God, and I will always be thankful for that. Bare with me, I warned you these were random thoughts.

I am not trying to get jerry Maguire on you. I am selfish. Typing these words makes me feel better. I am sure I will be posting on more events that make me cry. Being a pediatric nurse on neuro floor where I take care of patients with brain tumors and other conditions doesn't really help either.
I am going to stop now so I can get ready for this season!

Happy Thanksgiving friends,

Amy

General blog entry.

Not too much going on today..Starting to stress over Thanksgiving dinner, but I have done it before so I know its okay..

Now to promote hubbys blog since apparently I am promoted my own way too much (thank you Jeff and Michael, I know you were kidding)

Hubby is doing Friday Flashback over at www.valtool.blogspot.com which will include old videos more than likely from the 80s. I will not promote again until he plays a song by NKOTB so that may be a while.

The Christmas season has arrived. Cold weather, Christmas music, decorations, parties, I love it. The only way this holiday season could be better is if we were in a home church. We will attend Christmas Eve services somewhere, but I miss the feeling of being near friends you call family. Ya know? SO that's what's on my mind plus working on adoption things.

For those of you who have children, how has the Christmas season changed for you???

Thirteen Vacation ideas I would love and why!
1…. 2 week Disney Magic Cruise. Michael and I have done this 2 1/2 times and I have loved it. Even when it rains, they make sure you have a good time. We dont have kids yet and loved it. There is plenty of things for adults to do!
2.Maine in the fall I want to take Michael there. I think it would be romantic. Dad took us for a week a few years ago and we had a great time. We saw whales and everything. Loved the weather in September
3.Orlando, Florida. We have family there which is why this wont happen. I want to spend 7-10 days on Disney property..Somewhere nice, hopefully expensive. Mind you, these are dreams and what could be perfect. I cant wait until we get our daughter and she is old enough to go.
4.Somewhere in Canada. Maybe where Anne of Greene Gables is at. I think it was called Prince Edward Island
5.San Diego Primarily for the zoo. I hear it takes a few days to go through
6.London We spend a week there, but it wasnt enough. I would love to go there
7.A resort somewhere where everything is included. That would be awesome
8.hawaii. it could be a cruise or just visiting different islands. That would be fun
9. Alaska
10.Texas Im not sure whats even there but it would be cool
11.Roadtrip to see where we grew up. This would include my sister and we would go to Midlothian Va and Rock Hill SC
12.Italy. This has recently become an interest because of books I have read. It seems quite romantic
13. 2 weeks in China Oh wait! I am going there and I am bringing home a small child! Yippee!Links to other Thursday Thirteens!

Monday Memory

Lets see. I love memories! Most of my memories involve my younger sister Kelly whose children have been featured here.

I remember my family taking me to college. I went to a small Southern Baptist college called Union University.. I had a dorm with 3 other girls and we had a kitchen. As much as I wanted to prepare by buying things, my mom said "You aren't setting up an apartment, you dont need all that"? We learned that I actually did need that as the other girls had packed well. Dad and Kelly made a run for Kmart or Target and purchased me things so that I wouldnt feel like such a dork. I never felt like a dork and I am still friends with my roomies, so I guess it worked out well. Kelly was my interior decorator. She tried to make it pretty but there wasnt much to work at..

Then there was that Thanksgiving that Kelly told me to wear a vest over a shirt and not to tuck the shirt in. We now agree I looked like a dork. Thanks Kelly, I will think of you this holiday season!!!!

Life Love and Happiness

Have you ever just loved life? I dont mean, to just be in a good mood, but to just love the fact that you are alive..I am having one of those moments for a lot of reasons and I wanted to share..

Another tidbit about me..I used to not cry.. I now cry over every thing, seriously everything. Its very odd. But I now know thats okay.

I cried on my way to work. Why you may say? Do not laugh. I cried because I pulled up beside a huge SUV and noticed there was a movie playing. What movie? Frosty the Snowman. I cried because the kids were watching Christmas movies and the family was on a trip..The whole idea of stuff like that is sentimental and I can not wait to do things like that. My family gave me great memories that I will always cherish.

I have a special patient that I have been caring for for many weeks. I love her, I love her family and its been a rough stay. She has not felt good for a long time. As I started my shift, I quickly went to her room to say hello. I was greeted by the sweetest smile I have ever seen. Oh yeah, my eyes quickly teared up as I talked to her parents..These are the moments I love pediatric nursing.

My hubby, oh how I love my hubby. We have strong relationship. Its not perfect and we have recently learned our strengths and weaknesses, but I love it. Maybe I am just being sentimental, but I love everything we have done in the past 5 years and I am excited about the future. We have just been having a lot of fun together lately.Whether its trivia, movies or talking, we have enjoyed each other and I absolutely love to brag about him..... Go over and say hi to him over at www.valtool.blogspot.com He has started a new weekly posting that everyone will enjoy..Go ahead, say hi. Send your hubbies there. My hubby will not advertise his blog, so I will for him. When you get to know my hubby, you learn that he is the most sarcastic, fun loving, warm hearted dude in the world

We have a stressful day coming upon us. Our social worker will be visiting us sometime to go over the house. But you can all about the adoption stuff here.

My Michael rocks!!

Its the fall. The weather is awesome. Christmas music has started. People are nice and I am just happy.. Oh, I have bad days but life is good!!!!!

4. The adoption orientation- it was full of hope and promise
5. The day we picked up our first dog, Lucy the Basset hound
6. The day my Michael came to my apartment to cheer me up and I almost didn’t let him in. We watched The Pirate Movie and I fell in love with him then
7. My first holiday season in my first apartment and Michael planted a Christmas tree and hung lights while I was at work, and cleaned the apartment and made sure Christmas music was on
8. Thanksgiving 2 years ago. My parents were here and his mom and we had a great time.
9. Our first movie date...to see The Replacements
10. 9/11 Not only did we witness the event on TV together, hours later we found out we were moving to Atlanta
11. This past year, when I got a new bed and I was surprised. Michael had it delivered while we were on our anniversary
12. Every Parrot head event. All of them have been fun. Truly, Michael has made me a Buffet fan
13. The night Michael drove me to Birmingham and led me to believe we were going to see Bon Jovi, but we were actually going to see Steven Curtis Chapman and get a meet and great. This was one of the first times; the idea of adopting from China entered our hearts.

On my mind

There is not a lot on my mind but the following things

1) Hubby posted today at www.valtool.blogspot.com It was about football and I still dont get football

2) I am the only person excited that 90210 comes out on Tuesday. Seriously, I followed Dylan, Brenda, Brandon and the rest of the gang weekly for many years

3) There are cool Christmas movies coming out

4) I want to be awake on Sundays so I can go to church

5) We have a lot to do in the next couple of months which should be fun

This is just a list of things. Perhaps my brain is just not working at its best because I have caught a cold..A yucky cold. I do love cuddle weather, but I guess I should wear a coat or jacket when I have to walk in the cuddle weather..Thats really all I have to say.

Seriously people, the name poll went in a direction I was not expecting. I promise I have not voted but the names people like are the not the ones I expected. Its pretty cool. Click here to Vote

Have a good Sunday.

Thirteen Things about The Howell-Rushing Wedding

Thursday 13
Thirteen things about the Rushing Howell/Howell-Rushing wedding weekend

1. Jeff and Val were married.
2. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception
3. I saw friends from college that I had not seen in years. Jenny and Steven are another lovely couple. I lived with Jenny one summer and she was also a neighbor for a few years. I have gotten a few my space messages from Kevin and Robyn and I got to meet them. Too much fun!!!! They have not changed. They both made me laugh!!!
4. I had lunch with old college roomies Jenny and LeeAnne before the ceremony
5. I spent the weekend in Jackson, Tn at Sara B’s house and got to play with her puppy
6. I met several Rushing family members who I have been exchanging emails and blogposts with over the past few months. All of which are very cool
7. I had dinner at O’Charleys, my favorite restaurant in college
8. Michael and I had lunch (not really, just visited) with his dad on the way home
9. The weather could not have been any prettier..
10. Jeff and Val looked gorgeous, happy, giddy, in love, etc.
11. I got to talk to Jeff’s grandma who gets online. She is a pretty cool lady
12. My husband and Jenny’s husband enjoyed using the disposable camera on the table
13. We walked around the church, including the nursing wing. We looked at the baby names on the door and realized that many people use city and states for their children’s names.

To summarize, it was a lovely, beautiful, romantic weekend. Truly a good time was had by all!!!!!!! I am blessed and honored to have been invited. See other posts for details regarding the lovely couple who are now honeymooning in Jamaica!
I can not wait for them to get settled in, as they will be living in Atlanta and will be available for socializing.

To anyone who was there, I enjoyed meeting you and hope to see you again sometime!

Halloween results

The night was fun. We had many power rangers and some very cute supermen. There were no wiggles this year!!! Yes. We did have a femal suma wrestler which was really cute and 2-3 year old unicorn..The unicorn really loved Lucy and wasnt afraid at all. Lucy jumped on her a few times and she just laughed and laughed..There were a few teens with no costumes. We did have a child ring our bell 5-6 times and when we answered he said" your house is cool, how much is it?" the kid was 7-8 and i have no idea where that came from...

What about you? Any interesting comments!
