Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Congrats to Jenn from Enjoying the Ride for winning the contest. I decided to give an extra prize away and I have that other persons address so I will just surprise them

Spent the midafternoon with an adopting friend and her new baby Sophia. It was great fun.

Not many people commented on the last post so lets try this again. DO you have Christmas traditions at your house or did you as a child? Michael and I are always looking for new things (I shouldn't speak for Michael) and I want to hear yours!

Thanks for the fun contest!! Let's see, Christmas traditions? Ummm, the whole month is like 1 big tradition. From the getting together to decorate trees to having my birthday party to Christmas Eve and Christmas day full of certain foods, kids singing, dogs causing trouble, certain relatives who are always late, drinking the holiday type drinks, everyone helping out with the cooking and after eating cleaning. Oh, the youngest always gets to open the first present, and then in order up to the oldest. Then the many many many after Christmas trips to the malls with my sisters, and sometimes a parent or two. I don't know, it's all one long strain of little tradition after little tradition that seems to blend into one another to create those warm fuzzy feelings. :-)

Thank you! I love to play along!

I have to agree with my friend frigga, in that we have lots of little things we do.

I guess the biggest tradition is going to my moms so all the grandkids can decorate her tree. We usually do it right after Thanksgiving, but this year she is a little behind, and we're doing it Saturday. It's just another way for all the kids to be together.

Growing up we had a tangerine tree in the backyard, so we left tangerines or oranges for the reindeer and they always left a huge mess in the yard to us to clean up!!

Amy, my family is Danish but I think this is for a lot of scandanavian countries. My mom makes rice pudding and hides a nut in it--she puts it in saucers, ready to serve. The person who gets the nut, wins a prize. I have also seen a German tradition that on Christmas eve, a pickle ornament is hidden on the tree and the person who finds it gets a prize. I saw this in an ornament catalog. Sounds like fun and could be any ornament of your choosing. Now you and Michael have some ideas. I look forward to hearing others.

The nativity scene always sat, front and center under the tree. I spent more hours playing with those little figurines, acting out the Christmas story, and even performing musical numbers (featuring the Christ child in the manger).

Last night we put up our nativity scene. I had to put on a little play for hubby. I'm glad he loves me or else he'd think I'm just crazy!

My parents didn't really celebrate Christmas when I was a kid. But our kids open the little stocking gifts on Christmas eve and the rest of the presents on Christmas morning.

We exchanged gifts on Christmas eve and take delight in opening them in front of everyone. It's wonderful to see my son's happy face as he opens each and every present.

I thought of another neat tradition. My dad would BLAST Mannheim Steamroller to wake us up!

oyster stew and chili for supper on Christmas Eve. Driving to a neighboring town to see a live nativity and making tons of cut out cookies!

Jenn,

I love the idea of everyone getting together to decorate your mom's tree. I may have to run that idea by my parents.

We always get together with my side of the family on Christmas eve, with a small dinner/snacks and open gifts. We spend Christmas morning opening stocking stuffers and gifts from each other, then travel to hubby's side of the family for Christmas day dinner (and more gifts).

We always make time sometime in Dec. to drive around and see all the decorations, attend a live "Journey to Bethlehem", attend "Living Windows", make Christmas cookies and many other things.

I LOVE Christmas time!

we always go driving around looking at the lights and decorations on the houses. We also buy each an ornament and open that on Christmas Eve to put on the tree. Have fun making your own traditions!

We always drove to a certain neighborhood where an older couple set out lots of Christmas decorations along with music playing (and many animated characters). This was in the late 60's so was quite the feat!
The other tradition we had was after Christmas dinner, we would travel back to my Nana'a (great-grandmother's farmhouse) to get our gift from her on her Christmas tree. Her tree was decorated with lights and old fashion tinsel and a handkerchief for all the relatives, probably over one hundred handkerchiefs. Each handkerchief had a tag with a name written on it. Sometimes it took quite awhile to find "yours" with your name on the tag.
I have a small tree I put handkerchiefs on to this day and any one visiting our home during the holidays may select one to keep (mens and ladies cotton handkerchiefs). I buy many through antique shops year round.
I need to post a picture of it!
