Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Thirteen Things about Amy
This week since this is the time of year to give, I am going to list 13 c harities that I would love
to give lots of money to as well as the reasons why

1…. Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta This is where I work. As per hubbys blog, according to Forbes, we are the 3rd best Pediatric Hospital in the country. I am honored to take care of the patients and families that I do.

2. Make a Wish Foundation Many Patients of mine have been given trips which has brightened their lives. Make a wish provides dreams to children with long term illnesses

3.Salvation Army- I would love to be able to help provide things for others

4. American Brain Tumor association I have taken care of so many patients with brain tumors that I want to help find a cure

5.American Cancer Society This effects so many people each year

6.Caringbridge Most people dont know of caringbridge. They provide websites for patients and families. Many families tell me how therapeutic this is to them

7.Epilepsy Foundation ANother diagnosis I have learned a lot about over the last 5 years. Seizures not only effect the patient, but all who know the child

8.Give Kids the World Many of my families have stayed here and have loved it

9.Habitat for Humanity I would love to be involved in this and help families get into new homes

10.Toys for Tots I want to spend lots of money here. How cool would it be to provide every child with a dream toy?

11.Ronald McDonald House This provides a place for families to stay when their children are hospitalized. It really takes a stress off of the families

12. Atlanta Community Food Bank Enough said. They provide food for thousands year round. Another thing I would love to be a part of

13.World Vision they sponsor children in countries all over the world to provide clothing, food and education

There are so many more I could mention and I wish I could help each one. Take the time to put yourself in others shoes this holiday season.

Great List!!
I would imagine that your work with children there can be very heartbreaking and very rewarding at the same time!
Don't forget - even when we can't write the big checks often what we give in our time by volunteering is still a valuable gift to many of these organizations! :)

A list like that is why I want to smack someone when they say "oh, I don't have anything to do"...go volunteer at any of these places!

With your permission, I'd like to add one more. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) assists not only people with mental illness, but their families as well. A great grassroots organization.

Happy TT!

Great list of charities and reasons to contribute to them. :) My husband's father died of an inoperable brain tumour, so that is one charity we always donate to. And as I suffer from endometriosis, we donate to the Endometriosis Association every years as well. A lot of the races we run are also run for charity, so we've contributed to many different organizations in that way.

Have a good day. :)

My youngest son goes to a private school for the deaf, and they NEED money. It's been great giving to them. Even when he doesn't go there any more, we will probably still give to them every year.

COOL list YOU'VE put together! ;)

I've posted my Thursday Thirteen, too. Enjoy!

These are some great organizations. There are so many needs out there it can be hard to decide. I think we often migrate towards charities that deal with issues close to our hearts. For me I like to support crisis pregnancy centers. Compassion is another one, similar to World Vision.

Fantastic list! I love Give Kids the World-used to do Ice Cream Socials with them when I worked for Disney...

These are all excellent--many we have contributed to over the years.

Thanks for visiting my TT on food triggers--I've lost 13 lbs.

What a great idea for a list! Thank you for posting it -- I'm going to check those out.

This is a GREAT list!! There was an interesting 20/20 on last night about giving in America. It seems that the "working poor" give more (percentage-wise) to charitable organzations that any other group. The rich give, the next highest percentage. The "middle class" give the lowest percentage.

I found it kind of fascinating. They also noted that people who were "religious" gave more than those who weren't....

I keep telling my dh that if I could do ANYTHING...I'd be a philanthropist!!

Have a great day!

My TT is up, too.

Excellent list Amy!! I love helping charities and if I were a millionaire, I would be giving away money left and right.

An excellent list--these are things we should be supporting all year, and not just at Christmas time!!

I have always wanted to get involved in the actual building aspect of habitat for Humanity. I do give to a few charities ona regular basis, nd do volunteer work...but the idea of helping build a home is so exciting and challenging. I bet there would be amazing people involved too.

What a very important TT list you wrote today. Thanks for the inspiration.

Here is my TT list, edition #17...

AWESOME LIST!!! Great reminder to people about giving to others... This is one of the reasons I really like this time of year is that everyone seems to get more generous and caring... too bad more of it didn't leak out into the rest of the year! Happy TT.

What a great list! I often wish I had more money to donate as well. Unfortunately, it costs money to live in this world. Especially if you adopt a child as I am sure you are finding out. It took us two years to recover from the $42,000 it cost us, but worth every penny!

that is a really good list!!

Nice list ~ I would love to be able to give more, too. Unfortunately, I am just working on getting by myself. Ahh...to dream of what I would do if I hit the Powerball...if it ever happens I promise I'll give to EVERY charity you listed. :)

A great and thoughtful list! My Thursday Thirteen # 21 is up now. It is the Photo Church Tour Edition Stop by if you get a chance!

Very other person focused. Very good list. Have you heard of TEAR? Possibly not since they seem to be Australian. I was thinking of buying these presents for some people, especially the people that say they don't want any presents.

This really is a great list -- it's always good to think about the people who really need us.
Happy TT!

I love your list! I help with Toys for Tots every year at work. I just saw a special last night about rich people not giving enough to charity.. I bet we would if we could... Ironic, huh?

It's really a great list. Very often the foundations that do charity work need volunteers who are willing to go the extra mile as much as they require fuunds. Many of us forget that. We can all do our bit make atleast one person's life better and it's not really about the money. time, effort and love count for a lot as well.
My mum has a habit of spending sometime, maybe an hour a day, every day at a local hospital just talking to lonely people, esp elderly people left alone by their children in hospital rooms giving them company and I think that is one of the loveliest things that can be done...

Thanks for commenting on my TT, Amy! I love your music here, and appreciate your wonderful causes - go Girl! I don't bake much anymore and lost all my favorite recipes, sorry.

I feel even worse now, knowing that you can actually name off 13 charities. The only one I can think of is St. Jude. And that's only because they send me gift and envelope Christmas labels every year, and ask for a donation. Of course, I never send anything in. I'll have to donate something when I get a little extra money.

Great list though!

What a wonderful list and caring heart! Thanks for stopping my my TT! Happy Holidays.

All very worthy charities. I would include "Samaritan's Purse" and "Angel Tree". They help make Christmas bright for children in need.
Have a great day.

hi amy, thanks for visiting for TT. That's a great list of charities. So you worked a lot with people who have brain tumors? You guys are wonderful. We met so many caring and truly compassionate health care workers while my mother in law battled brain cancer (GBM4).
