Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

thursday 13

Thirteen Things I remember about Union Univ in Jackson, Tn

1. I learned more at Union than just my classes

2.I had the greatest roommates ever

3.I lost almost 80 pounds my sophomore year just to gain it back years later. Thank you so much O Charleys

4.I ate in the cafeteria a total of 3 times in 4 years

5.We had tornado warnings and the upstairs neighbors had to come down

6.We had room checks each month and one of the things was to defrost the freezer which meant turning it off and using a hairdryer to melt the ice..haha

7.One of my college neighbors is also adopting from China

8.I was not in a sorority but most of my friends were in one particular one

9.I learned that even if I you are going to a Southern Baptist School, not everyone believes the same thing you do

10.I became a fan of Steven Curtis Chapman which eventually lead to our decision to adopt from China

11.I went on a spring break missions trip to New Orleans

12. 2 of my roomies and one of my best friends were involved in my wedding

13. Its odd, people I expected to be friends with forever, I am no longer in contact with and people I didnt know well I communicate with frequently

I have the great memories from those 4 years and although it was a small school, I have met blogging friends who actually graduated the same time. I didnt go to a party school or have the same experiences a lot of people have in college, but I wouldn't trade those years in for anything!!!!

Sounds like a pretty good experience. I wish that I'd had the chance to go away to school and live in the dorms!

Happy TT!

You know I'd love the theme of this week's TT, don't you? ;) I had some of those same Union experiences -- wouldn't trade them for anything. Union rocks!

Hi Amy,

I wonder if you know how we parents who paid those college cafeteria fees, year after year, felt when we found out our kids were eating at Taco Bell. LOL I swear, I couldn't believe it because all the food, all the choices, in the cafeteria looked wonderful to me. Apparently neither one of my girls agreed. At all.

Thank you so much for the way you visit my blog and leave such sweet comments. I tell you, I've been awful about repaying visits, but I'm determined. I shall endeavor to perservere!

I remember having to teach my roommates how to defrost a refrigerator. LOL. Happy TT.

I can relate heavily to #9. My son attends Truett McConnell and he has experienced the same thing. Quite an eye opener when you have been shelted in your home church all of your life.

Love Jackson TN!
I have heard the college is great.
#9 is so true!

Great TT Amy!

Sounds like you enjoyed good years in college! I did in many ways, but there were so many ups and downs and I got myself into messes and made some terrible decisions because when I was that young, I didn't know my butt from a hole in the ground, but I digress... live and learn. :)

I am glad I lived in the dorms when I was in college -- what an experience! There isn't anything quite like it. :)

aww.... You just made me remember my own four years at college.

Sounds like a great time. I sort of miss the college years; they were carefree and easy, but challenging. And yes, I learned more outside of class than I did inside. I think that's how college is supposed to be.

Sandee said...

I didn't party through college either. What a nice bunch of memories. Have a great TT. :)

Sounds wonderful. I don't stay in touch with anybody from college. Happy TT!

Sounds like a good school. College should teach about life. Seriously, what else is there to learn that is more important?

Sounds like a great place:) Memories are awesome!! Happy TT.

I'm glad that you had such a good experience. My college had 50,000 students enrolled when I was there. I felt like cattle being driven through the feed lot. Not to be recommended. :-)

Happy TT!

Wow, sounds like a great experience. Any place that leaves that many positive memories has to be good! Thanks for sharing them. I really enjoyed this list :) Happy TTing!

I have enjoyed aspects of the various colleges I have attended. I even have a few friends that I have kept for years.

Sounds like you had fun. Good for you. I have to agree about the cafeteria fees though---my parents paid for meals and I went out to eat ALL THE TIME. Looking back, the cafeteria food wasn't so awful; I just wanted to get away from the college atmosphere at mealtimes.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time there! I am enjoying it, but I have my pains as well. It's such a painful pleasure. Oooer, I just made it sound so wrong. Thankfully I'm not staying in dorms with roomies (I did in college though) so they don't have to suffer my monstrosity. I'm not the easiest person to live with!

Great list this week Amy. I love the fact that a roommate/college student is also adopting! Ironic, but oh so neat!!

good thing about college, even at a place like BYU, you still get to meet different people from different walks of life.

hmm, sorority, sorority...

sounds like some very good life lessons were learned. thanks for your list.

Karen said...

LOL, you were right, of course I love this list:) As a member of said sorority, I can say I wish you had joined, it was so much fun, and I love the contacts it has brought after college as well. We lived in Jacksonville, FL after we first got married, Nick was stationed at NAS Cecil Field, then NAS JAX. All of our mutual Navy friends (except his roomate and my ex, Jason) went there as well. When they all left, I was almost engaged to Jason. Imagine their shock when I showed up married to Nick:) I also must say that Union does have a party scene...some of that carries over to Lambuth, but not all. Those were good times. I did eat lunch in the cafeteria every day, and occasionally dinner, but mostly used my credits in the short order area that had extended hours!

Number 13 is so true. I had freinds when I was younger that I was sure would be at my side for the rest of my life. Where are they now.

Great list.

Great 13! Sounds like school made the right kind of impact on you! :) I was also in a small school - not a party school - which was just as fun and as memorable! Happy TT

I don't communicate much with old college friends.. probably because of the distance factor. But I lost touch with my guy friends much sooner than girls. They're awful at keeping in touch!

Sounds like you had some great college years

It's amazing how different the university world is from any other.

I added pictures to my book list, if you're interested.

Hey Amy!

I spent a week at Union one summer in junior high when it hosted a camp I went to. My memory? Suite style rooms (we though oh so cool!), and buying ice cream sandwiches to put in those freezers you mentioned! :-)

It's amazing how wonderful your college years can be when you really connect with your school, isn't it? Those are the years when your personal identity really solidifies.

I'm *so* glad I went to RPI instead of MIT!

i remember watching my mom defrost our fridge in the days before hiar dryers. she would wrap the contents of the freezer in a blanket on the kitchen table and leave the door of the freezer compartment hang open for several hours and hack and scrape the ice into chunks she could toss in the sink and catch the melt in cake pans. afterwards the floor needed mopping. and all of this between clearing up the breakfast mess and starting the evening meal preparation. with two pre-schoolers under foot.

i'm glad for you your college experience is full of fond memorites.

thanx for visiting
