We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Thirteen Things about Amy

13 of my favorite romantic songs

1…. I Could Not Ask For More by Edwin McCain. this was our wedding song

2. I will be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman. I realize that everyone has this in their wedding but the words are so sweet and pure

3.Faithfully by Journey. I have always loved this song

5.Here and Now by Luther Vandross

6.Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion. Once again, another wedding song

7.Take My Breath Away. I honestly like the Jessica Simpson version, but the original is the best

8.Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden

9.Dont Want to Miss a Thing by Aeromsith

10.Love of my Life by Michael W Smith and Jim Brickman

11.Come What May from the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack

12. I do cherish you by Mark wills and/or 98 degrees

13. If you could see what I see by Geoff Moore

I realize that some of these are cheesy but hey, its my list!

Here is a Question for you!

Do you ever had days where you are just happy? Just really happy! I am in a happy mood and I am tired. You see I only got 4 hours of sleep which usually makes me sleepy and grumpy, but not today.
I am blessed
I am happy
I am loved
Lucy makes me smile. Somtimes we wonder why she is a bit crazy, but she does make me smile.
I look forward to my dates with my hubby.
I enjoy just watching tv with my hubby.
I love talking about the future, going to China, hanging out with friends, and other vacations.
I love sunny, cold days.
I love it when my Michael puts really cool cds in the cd player for me to sleep to.
I love the fact that even if I dont see my friends for months, they still love me and treasure our friendship.
My nieces and nephews make me smile.

So I ask you, what makes you smile?

Wordless Wednesday

Its Monday morning, the beginning of the workweek. Today I have many many random thoughts but I guess I will think about them a bit before posting them. I hope you all had a good week. I must brag on my husband. As most of you know, he is diabetic. He has done so well lately. His blood sugar has been better than is been in a long time. So, I just wanted to say to him...I love you my Michael, and I am very proud of him..Go tell him congrats over at his blog and you can also read about his funny story of the week.Who knows? Perhaps someone out there is also a diabetic and can offer more words.

On another note, there is a great blog conversation over at Stevens website regarding church, worship and the way bring people into the church..You know, praise music, U2...Interested? Check it out here

Thank you

So, I went to the dr to get those elevated white blood counts checked. As a nurse and after talking to doctors at work, I knew the chances of it being anything were slim. I called to verify my appt, and they answered North Atlanta Cancer center, may I help you? Fear began and I don't know why. Perhaps its the funeral this week, other patients but the C word scared the crap out of me.

I get there early to see the dr. I see patients waiting..Older patients. Younger patients. Bald patients. I hear their stories. I know what their plans are for the day. Chemo, bone scans, new treatment. I am alone. (not to worry, Michael would have been there. He needed his sleep and I wanted to go alone). I hear them. I see them. The faces of cancer. This horrific disease has affected each person around me.

I go into the office. I glance at the chemo chairs. They give me a pamphlet on YOUR CANCER! I'm thinking, do they know something I don't. I get weigh..Now that was fun, I tell you. I got blood drawn. A lot of blood drawn. I am sent to the exam room, where I wait alone and my mind wonders. Not for long thank God, but it indeed wonders. Am I ready for a surprise? What if there is a lab that was drawn that I don't know about and my Dr didn't want to tell me.

Well, my new Dr came in and said "You are a keeper. I'm sure seeing Cancer everywhere scared you" you are fine and your WBC has already returned to normal. Seriously. She rocks. She came and just told me. On a scale of 1-10, she said she is worried about a 0..She said, come back in 3 months and we will recheck and then release you to a doctor. She is setting me up with a nutritionist there so that's good.

Oh yeah, because I had to wait, I had to pay an extra dollar in parking. They took a check for 4 bucks from me..

Poll below

If I were to close the poll today, the majority of the voters chose TLC as the one cable station they could live with if they could only choose 1 station. I had no idea so many people watched the baby story! Go ahead, vote away Thurday 13ers

The sexy dude would be my hubby, Michael!
Dont forget the poll a few posts below!

Yesterday

Besides my wedding and the birth/adoption of our future children, yesterday was the most beautiful experience I have encountered and I am blessed to have been a part of it. Catie, whom you can read about here, was a funny, lively little girl that literally touched millions of lives. I asked permission to share her site with you, so please visit!

the week ahead

2 things
1) I was able to take off a few hours and will go to the funeral. Leaving work at 430am and hoping to make it to Savannah by all after running home to change!. Pray, its going to be a rough day. Im expecting it to be a full church. Her precious life will be celebrated tomorrow. What an awesome, beautiful experience this has been for me. To be a part of a journey like this is like nothing I have experienced. Miss Priss will be remembered.

2) I am quite happy Mr Peyton is going to the bowl. Okay I dont know football. In fact I learned tonight that the quarterback is not on the field the whole game. Something about defense and offense. I need to learn. I am kind of excited about this game. Perhaps its the commercials because it certainly isnt about halftime. I think Jennifer Hudson should sing the National Anthem.

Thats all. I am off the next 4 days so hopefully I will get a lot of things done. I will let you know

Tim McGraw - My Little Girl

Thursday night, Caties mom said this song kept running through her head..In honor of sweet sweet Catie!

Thanks for the notes

Thanks for your notes and encouragement. I feel guilty. This has been a beautiful experience and journey with this family. I am one of many nurses, doctors, techs, and other people who have laughed and cried with this family. I am not special because of what I do. Every one of us has a heart and feelings. I am blessed because I have the job that I dreamed about as a child. It took me a while to get here, but its sooo worth it. this week has either led to never ever get into oncology nursing or to just jump in and make it my passion. We will see where this leads. I feel guilty because as sad as I have been, the grief that this family is going through is far more than I can imagine. Next Saturday, my patients mom will give birth to her second child. I ask you to pray for them Monday at 11am and also next Saturday if you can. I am presently working on getting someone to cover part of my shift on Sunday so that I may attend the funeral in Savannah on Monday morning.

My blogging friends are awesome!

This ends the serious note..

On the less serious note, why did the AMerican Idol girl use my word? Fluffy ? Dude, you cant take my word! Bummer

Hurt Heart/warning you might cry

My heart hurts. This evening, I was able to spend a few minutes with my sweet patient and her family. They had so much support but I am glad I was able to spend a few minutes with them. I left in tears. I knew this night would change the dynamics of this family forever. I will cherish every word I heard in that room. We talked about memories and other nurses in the hospital

Early Early this morning, the ICU nurses called me to tell me my sweet sweet patient passed away.

I almost got angry. Truly angry. Never has death angered me but it almost got me. My sweet sweet patient whom I met 3 years ago met Jesus tonight. Her parents had to leave and spend their first night away from her. Oh how I pray they found rest. Mom is having baby number 2 in just 9 days. My sweet patient never got to meet her new brother or sister.

As you can tell, I have been emotional about this. As a pediatric nurse, I have never had to face the loss of a patient while at work. I am probably still in shock as I am still expecting to see this family every few months for a treatment. It hit me that this was final. As I said goodbye to this family, it was a door closing. For 3 years, I have looked forward to visiting this patient and seeing how well she was doing. There won't be anymore visits.

I spent time with the ICU nurses who cared for her before and after death as well as her doctor and the chaplain. As horrible as losing her is, it truly was a beautiful moment and I would have been devastated if I had missed tonight. This family was faithful, they were prayer warriors. They loved everyone. Cancer sucks! Brain tumors suck! Enough said.

Rarely do I share stories from work. Rarely do I get close to a family like I have over the past 3 years. Please pray for this family. Pray for comfort and joy as they plan the funeral of one daughter and prepare for the birth of a new child in just a few days.

Pray for her mom and dad. Mom is scheduled to deliver her second child in 10 days. I do not know how they are getting through all of this this. My mind can not fathom the emotions they are dealing with. This will be on my mind for a long time. This family has given me a new look on nursing and the families I interact with.

Pray say a prayer for this family who has impacted my life and my career more than they will ever know!

Life

Hmmm..Just got back from the gym and I promised Miss Lucy a quick walk before my nap time. Work schedule is odd this week as I am working every other day.Our big stressor is still the weekend schedule and what we are going to do.ugh

We have friends, family to visit and I want to try to find something fun to do to celebrate our birthdays..We will see. I have a couple ideas.

Work was good on Sunday night. There was a patient (it wasnt my patient, i dont know the patient) that was scheduled for surgery Monday morning early. I am not sure why this is bothering me. I dont know her or her family. You see, she has a brain tumor, a pretty big one. It was the fact that 20-30 people showed up prior to her being wheeled in to pray for her and her family and to offer support.

Thats what I want! No, not majot surgery or pain for any member of my family. But church support that loves you unconditionally and is there for you. I want to be a part of a group that does that. Church today has been stereotyped. I have helped in that stereotype. For many years, the adults always told me "the church is not the builiding, but the people in it". I finally understand that and I want that.

Pray that we find it.
Pray for the sweet patient, the drs and that family that needs support
Pray for another sweet patient of mine who is going through a rough time right now

I hope you are all doing well!

Oh yeah, on the new year resolution front:
1) I am eating better. Last night we had chicken with feta and lemon, risotto and fresh broccoli
2)Michaels morning blood sugars have been really good
3)I have been able to go to the gym almost every week
4)and those 100 calorie snack bag things rock! NOw there is a Reeces bag that I tried but because it is so addictive, I cant have anymore
5)Our floor at work is hosting a game called "The Biggest Loser" to help us with our goals..I am excited about it. Free extra help

Thats all for now!

Sunday, January 07, 2007

Sunday night

I had my first Friday/Saturday weekend off in a long time and I have another one coming up. Work is busy is okay.

Michael and I went to church today. We visited the church we visited Christmas Eve. Honestly and I hope no one takes this the wrong way, I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps its because I honestly expected this to be be our home church, a place where our family would be welcomed for years..It isn't. I was hoping to see the family who invited us, but we learned during the service they were back at the hospital. Interesting enough, they were gone when I got to work day.. We will look for another church again, but I rarely have a Sunday when I am not coming straight home and sleeping.

there isnt too much going on. Michael and I will head to Florida to see family and celebrate our birthdays (yes we share the same birthday). I have been exercising and eating a bit better and I havent had soda since the first..Yeah me!

Thats really all..Will post more when I am more awake.

Friday, January 05, 2007

whats going on

Ok, so whats going on. I have an appt with the hemotologist (blood dr) next week to go over my slightly elevated WBC's (mine are 11 and normal is 5-10). On a scale of 1-10, my nervous level is about a 3 I guess. But there is much more going on. I cleaned the fridge today..My hubby put up some more cool 80s videos as you can see here, Lucy the bassett hound is a big goober and I have Friday and Saturday nights off this week. SO far, 16 people have revoted on the name at the adoption website, which you can find here, and I still cant find time for anything..its pretty bad!

But, I am positive and I have exercised and eaten ok for the past 2 days. As you remember, I need to lose at least 50 pounds prior to China accepting our dossier!

So, click on the websites, vote on a name or suggest a new one and say hello to hubby!

Just a regular entry from me

Well, I feel like I haven't had a regular post in a while. We got back a little while ago from Trivia with Jeff and the lovely Val. We would have placed first but we missed the question regarding what state has the most people on death row. It was a 1 in 4 shot as it was multiple choice.
Lets see, whats going on?

I am thinking about having a blog design. I found someone to redesign this site and it would really be cool. I have also found someone to personalize the adoption site, which you can find here. IF you visit that blog, make sure you vote on a name and leave a name in the comments if come up with a new one. We have a long way to go, but just looking to pass some time away.

Michael is best and treated me well and is still having some vision problems..He participated in Thursday Thirteen this week so please visit him over here and drop him a note if you will.

We are headed to Florida next week to spend time with family and celebrate our birthdays..Yes, we indeed have the same birthday.Just one of the many cool things about us!

Working tomorrow and then 2 days off. Hope to go to church on Sunday..Visiting a new one!

Please dont forget to add your diet/weight loss tips a few posts down

2006 in review

Well, it really started in 2005 when we went to the Steven Curtis Chapman/Mercy Me Christmas Concert.
2006 was a great year. We had talked about international adoption but never really talked about until this year.
What has happened? We have done some improvements on the house, including built in shelves and getting new flooring and have really enjoyed getting new furniture. It was a year of dreams and imagination.
March-my first trip to the Ga aquarium
In April, we got in touch with an old college friend Jeff, and have enjoyed his company since. IT was the month, we heard of the lovely Val. Who new we would be hanging out with both of them in 2006 in Atlanta?
May- The Pentz family Disney Cruise. By far the best Pentz vacation yet. We had a blast and it was here, that my heart great for Chinese adoption. We met Reece and Marissa and I am happy to say we will see them on Friday. This cruise was just an awesome experience.
June- trip home to celebrate Owens first bday
July- trip home for Basils first Bday
September- Our first First Friday to meet other people who are adopting..
In October, we applied with our adoption agency.
In October, we celebrated our 5th anniversary by heading back to Williamsburg,Va where we honeymooned. We even stayed at the same facility. It was truly romantic and I can not wait to go again. Im so glad we did a day trip to DC!
During this trip, we were approved for our adoption and went to orientation 2 weeks later!
Also, in October, we headed to Tn for the wedding of the year, of Jeff and Val. Not only did we witness the lovely Vals, but we saw all kinds of old friends..It was awesome.
November included our homestudy and lots of thinking. Thanksgiving included myself, Michael, Peter and Gary.
December-Christmas time..Enough said..Saw Christmas lights, went to the Michael W Smith Concert, enjoyed some time off and had a Christmas party at our home.

Well, that's it..2006 was eventful. 5 years with Michael so far as been wonderful?
I am blessed beyond belief and I don't deserve all the things God has given me. What about you?

What will 2007 bring? I have no idea. I hope to be logged in to the China system and begin the long wait. I hope to be more of an encourager to Michael and others. I hope that I think of others far more than I think of myself. I want to be happy. I want to be joyful. I want to make others happy.. We will see.
Dont forget to check out our adoption blog here for updates.!!!!
Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes!
