Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Yesterday and need some input

Ok, so yesterday was socially busy and I am NEVER socially busy. It started out by me going to the kickoff of the Women's Bible Study t church. I got there and they had an awesome breakfast laid out and I had a handful of grapes. Yummy!! So we had the intro and broke into our small groups. I am with the same girls as last year and I am so excited. Some of us met this summer for a Beth Moore Study. These ladies are so sweet and I am glad we are getting to know each better. We are doing the Amazing Collection, a study where we read the entire Bible and study it over 3 years. We are starting with Isaiah this year and I am so looking forward to this year. Lots of good stuff planned. I left a few minutes early and headed over to the weight watchers meeting.

Now, I have not had the best week. I had several really bad meals but I have been doing some laps around the nurses station at work. I was very very surprised by hearing I lost 4.6 pounds this week!!! Yippee. I am back to the weight loss before the cruise. Time to move on. I am thinking that every 25 pounds will bring a pedicure on!
After WI I had another great lunch with Donna. We hope to do this weekly as there is a Mexican restaurant next door. I had Chicken enchiladas, only ate one tortilla but next time will skip the guacamole. Its soooo not worth it!!

Came home, worked on cleaning, took some books back to the library, actually went to the gym and then ended the night with trivia!! Fun Fun!

Here is where I need your help. When I went to the gym, I took my letter with me. The letter was a "I don't want to renew my membership" letter. I walked in and the mgr looked at it first so I knew what was up. I go to a women's only gym that is less than 2 miles from the house. I am almost always the only one working out when I go there.

Now this guy wanted to know my reasons and I told him about getting a cheaper rate at Gold's Gym and the fact that I could work out with my husband.

Here was his response!
Just because you want to work out with your husband
doesn't mean you will!
If you stay, I will drop your monthly rate to 15 dollars a month!

I will help you reach your goals by training you for free!
Here was the kicker! When you go to a men and women's gym, there will be a lot of people who are already fit and they will be watching you and staring at you while you work out. Now, fluffy people know people stare, it doesn't matter if they are at a gym or not. But I did not need this pushy dude to tell me this. That ticked me off.

But,
if i continue to stay at my gym , I rarely see him.
I do feel comfortable with the equipment and I
wouldn't have to worry about trying this Gold's Gym out.
What would you do? How would you feel?

well depends how much cheaper it is and how much you want to train with hubby - would he do a better deal for you both?

Well, Golds gym would be the same price as what my gym is offering. He is actually matching Golds offer.

Now the decision is risking being comfortable at Golds or stay where i am at even though he made that comment. Maybe I took it the wrong way

I'd go to the gym that you feel you would use more. If you think you'd use Gold's more because Michael is there then I would switch. If you don't think you'd feel comfortable at Gold's, then stay. But I would be offended by that guys comment. That was not helpful at all. You are at a gym to work out and get fit as is everyone else. Why would someone "stare" at you while you are working out? Gyms are full of people of all sizes. If we were all perfect we wouldn't need to go to a gym.

He sounds like a jerk!! Do you really want to work out with the hubs? If you do - go with Golds. Don't base your decision on the rudeness of people, cause that won't ever change! Also, don't base it on the anticipation of people staring at you & making you uncomfortable. Don't set yourself up for failure! You are beautiful!

I agree with ChupieandJ'smama...Go to the gym you feel you'll use more. If you want to work out with your husband than I would go with Gold's but if you want to stay in your "comfort zone" stay at the original one. JMHO

Wow that guy is the manager and he talked to you like that?! That's not a way to keep business! He had no business to say what he did. If you're still comfortable there because you won't see him, and the rate is better go ahead and stay, but if you think you'll work out more w/Michael then I would switch.

oops just saw your comment about it being the same price- have you been in Golds gym before? Can they offer you a trial membership to try it out for a week to see if you like it there?

I personally HATED working out with my hubs. Not that I didn't like my hub-just didn't like to feel like I had to be doing what he was doing..yadda yadda yadda.
Anyhow, sounds like I need to get to a gym to lose 4+ pounds in one week-GO GIRL!!

Congrats on the loss!! Woo-hoo!!

That is incredibly annoying that he would say that, all in the guise of "helping" you make the right decision (or right in his eyes, anyway). But that said, I would ignore the comment and stay if you're already comfortable there. Would you and Michael do a lot of the same exercising if you were at the same gym, or would you and he be off doing different things? If you would just do different things, then I think staying at your current gym makes sense more.

Hi Amy, wow... congrats on a great weight loss this week and last week...do you follow the points or core plan??

As for the gym, if your place is closer and the same price, why change?/ You and Michael would probably be doing different exercises anyway..I would pick the gym that you feel most comfortable with and that you will go to on a regular basis.
Take care my friend, hugs..Baba

My Michael and I are members of the same gym. Do we go together? No. Do we do the same things when we do go together? No. Ask yourself those questions. Is the current gym guy offering ongoing personal training AND lowering your price to match Gold's? That may be worth staying in and of itself...personal training is pricey. BUT if you want to work out with Michael and doing so will encourage you to do it more and consistently, then do that. Really, you just need to ask yourself which of these situations will be MOST beneficial to your weight loss/health goals...and do that one! :) Either way, you're gonna do fabulous! GOOD JOB THIS WEEK!!!!

Amy - your situation reminds me of the Friends episode when Chandler couldn't cancel his membership.

You took your letter in. You handed it to the manager. That should have been the end of it.

I started going to the gym because my husband goes. I am not sure I would still be going if I went anywhere else. We motivate each other to get there. We each do our own thing, but we get each other there.

We have never had an issue of people watching us. I have been amazed by the people who have come up to me (complete strangers) and complimented me on my weight loss. Weight loss my family didn't even notice.

I use to go to the Y(Northwest) by you. Then, I went to the one by your work(Ashford-D). I now go to Gold Gym. I would not call myself fit. I am always a work in process. There are people of all sizes at Golds. I love their class called RPM. It rocks and is addicting. The lights are out with little colored lights around the room. The music is loud. You are on a bike in your own zone. It ROCKS!! I would definitely suggest GOLDS. I also use their equipment. Go for it. It is good to change it up!!

wow.. so proud of your success this week!! About the gym decision, i would stay at your current gym. What he said was kind of rude, but I honestly think that he has a point. People tend to go to the gym (especially Gold's Gym) to people watch and it can be a "meat market" there. He shouldn't have told you that, but his goal as a manager is to get you to stay, just a crappy way to do it I guess.

If you think that you would go to Golds and be comfortable, go there! I know that I would be more comfortable going to a women's only gym, but that is just me. When you joined I remember that was a big decision maker for you to join, it being a women's only gym. I would be upset by his choice of words, but I don't think it would deter me from staying, getting a better rate, and getting personal training. That is the best savings of all :)
Have a great day!!

First I would be pissed off and then I would probably join because $15 is pretty reasonable for a month of workout and I am CHEAP! But if you want to workout with your hubby, the other route is the only way to go.

I say get out of there ... He was not nice and unkind ... He was insulting and I don't believe he will help anyone get to their goals w/ words like that ... You should feel comfortable where ever you are ... You are "fearfully and wonderfully made" ... You are a beautiful person who has much to offer ... Go to Gold's w/ the confidence that you are their for yourself, to make YOU feel healthier and more energetic ...

YOU ROCK !!!!

I would go wherever you feel you'd like to work out. If you went in there planning to leave, then you should go ahead and do it. :-)

Amy, I work at Curves Gym and my manager would NEVER treat a member the way you were treated. I think you should do what you are most comfortable with and what you honey thinks is best. My goodness!

Dump the dude - he does not deserve your money! Go to Gold's Gym like you planned.
