Amy . . .

What would you like to know? I am fun, but crazy. I have a most perfect husband, and 2 cats named Samson and Delilah. We are presently working on adopting a little girl from China and have a separate blog for that. I am a Christian and am working on a better relationship with him. I live in the Atlanta area and love sharing stories with people. I am also a pediatric nurse and I love it! I love to talk and meet new people and I love Disney Cruising

Having done my physical for the adoption, thing my dr just called and said that after 2 blood tests, my white blood cell count is a bit elevated..Its down from last time, but still on the hight end.It was 13, now 11. Not sure whats up, but she wants me to see a hematologist.
Pray its nothing serious..

Being the nurse I am, I have googled everything and it could just be an infection or inflammation. My first thought was leukemia, but my numbers would have been much higher and not have decreased...

Anyway, it will be consuming my mind until then..

Its been 2 days without soda and so far so good. I have done this before and after the first week or 2 its been smooth sailing.

Look for updates on the Adoption site found here. More paperwork to do and deadlines to meet but we can hopefully do it. Two more forever families were introduced this Christmas in China. Check the site out for their stories.

Happy new year!

Merry New Year and Happy Belated Christmas

Good morning blogging people! Its 5am and I am back at work from the holidays. I am saddenned that a family I have really grown to love is still here. I soo wanted them home for the holiday. But what a spirit my favorite patient has. I wish I had time to play chess tonight or to at least learn, next time!

So, I am going to list my new year resolutions. I wanted this to be my Thursday 13 tomorrow but that will be more specific!

So....

1)Lose at least 50 pounds. I do not talk about my weight or any other weakness. Typing this is a big deal. Perhaps it will make me do something more about it. By losing weight, I will become healthier

2)Make more time for quiet time with God. Seriously, 2 hours on the internet and I dont give Him 20 minutes? What is wrong with me.

3)Get rid of everything I dont need. Im talking clothes that are multiple sizes too small, collectables..I need to donate to others this year.

4)Be a better wife. Im not admitting I am a bad one. I want my actions to show how much I love my Michael. I want to make his life easier. I dont let him know how much I really appreciate him at times. Its in my mind, but I need to be a better support for him

5)Become less selfish. When I whine about not getting my way, I want to think about others who dont have has much as me

6)enjoy every moment of family time when we get it. I love my nieces and nephews and want to spend some quality time with them. All 4 are at a good age right now

7)Get involved in a church..uhm...enough said

8)Get logged in to the China database and begin the wait!

9)Stop spending money on things I really dont need

I could go on but I just want to become better. A better person that I! I want to put others first all of the time. I have learned more from the parents of my patients then my multiple years in college and for this I am grateful.

Okay, thats really all i have to say about that!

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

Christmas at the Christopher
The First pic is of the boys playing poker. It seemed like they were having a good time and I hear my hubby was winning. There are 3 boys. Peter is the oldest, then hubby MIchael and then Tim who is the youngest who lives in Florida. The chair is to represent the fact that we missed Tim and his family this year..At first, the empty chair was a joke but in all reality, we missed them

I've been tagged

Well, I have been tagged by another Amy so its my turn to write 6 odd things about me! Dont laugh, I know I am odd.

Here we go
1) I love salt on lemons. I dont care about tooth enamel at all..Salt and lemons rock
2) I started at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta over 5 years ago. Over 5 years ago, my obsessions with baby names began. Dear people, why did everyone choose my favorite names? my list has now dwindled to less than 20
3)I love finding old friends. I love it when old friends find me..I really enjoy looking back at old times
4)I am not OCD but there are certain things I have to do my way and I am not comfortable unless I am doing it. Too many things to list here. I am sure hubby can can come up with some and hopefully he will
5)I love Christmas. I mean really love Christmas. there is so much I have to do during Christmas, I end up frustrated if I cant do it all. See below memo
6)I am crazy. Not so crazy I need to be locked up, but random thoughts shoot out of my mouth all the time and I make others crazy

Ok, with that being said, I now will tag the following people. Make sure you go visit and make sure they list 6 funky things about them!!!

Michael
Jeff
Janeen
Cyndi
Norma
Panda Mom
Mommy Spics

Christmas is behind us or at least 12/25 is

Regarding this season, I think I missed it. Oh, I tried to slow down and enjoy it, Michael helped me accomplish what I needed to do, but I missed something. There will be more blogging regarding that sentence later
That being said,
We had a wonderful Christmas Day. Dec 24th, Michael and I visited a new church and hope to visit it again. We came home and ate Chinese and watched Christmas Vacation and the Grinch.
We woke up and took our time getting downstairs. After playing with Lucy the Basset Hound, we opened our gifts, watched Santa Clause 2, got ready and headed over the Christophers in Douglasville. We had an awesome dinner and exchanged gifts, chatted and enjoyed the company. We arrived home late, and MIchael went directly to bed.

What I learned was:
Do not give Lucy the Basset HOund Chinese leftovers or you will be cleaning her vomit up when you get home from Christmas dinner..Thanks for keeping it in the corner Lucy

Appreciate your family.Love them unconditionally because you hope they do the same for you.
Michael took care of me this year. Lots of lotions, and new shoes and a scrub top and lots more..He was very thoughtful this year and I love him oh so much.

For those who know my friend Yancy, baby Arianna made her appearance last week! Yeah! That baby is a miracle. What a great gift this season

Stay tuned for the 2007 weight loss diet rules I have made for myself. Dont laugh at them, I have to make them as simple as I can.

Christmastime is near

Well, if you head over to hubbys blog, you will find his take on today along with his Friday Flashback videos.

All in all a good day. Brother in law Peter took us to a Thrashers game last night and we had a blast..IT was a hockey game, in case you didnt know. We got home late and woek up around 10am. MIchael went shopping and I hit one last store for one more item.
We made it over to Shiloh Hills Baptist Church for a candlelight service and plan on attending during a regular service. I was invited by a parent of a patient of mine, but they were at the hospital so I was unable to visit with them. We are currently in intermission of movies. We just finished watching Christmas Vacation and while I finish laundry, MIchael will wrap gifts and we will conclude the movies with the Grinch.

Tomorrow, breakfast, gifts, and over to Douglasville for family time..

I wish Jeff and Val a happy first Christmas together.

I wish all the new forever families a first of many memories.
Dont forget the real reason of the Hoiday.
Dont forget those who dont have families to be with.
Dont forget the men and women overseas who are still protecting us and defending us.
Dont forget the children (and parents) whos Christmas is in the hospital.
Dont forget the homeless this season.

Cyndi, thanks for Friday Feast regarding me...

Merry Christmas and see ya soon!

Dear Fellow Staff Member

Dear Fellow Staff Member or parent who snuck into the breakroom,

NO, I didnt want dinner tonight. I am glad you were able to enjoy my Healthy Choice General Tso dinner and all of my Coke Zeros. Im sure you were just helping me become less fluffier. I hope that the extra calories helped you regain your energy. I know that you can not afford those 3 for 6 dollar dinners and I am glad I was able to provide you with much needed nutrients. Consider that your Christmas present.

I am glad I was able to help you rest tonight as you were able to watch all of your favorite shows on TV. I did not mind giving all of your IV meds, or making sure your alone babies were breathing. My crying episode was not about you. The family of my sweet patient who passed away this weekend came by the hospital tonight to deliver extra flowers to the families who were in the hospital. Im not sure why you were rude or why you told them to leave.

Im not bitter. I am hoping you enjoyed my Healthy Choice Meal as I just noticed all of my food was gone as this is first time I am able to sit down and eat. Your lovely comments were just what we all needed to hear this holiday season.

Im just saying

Your coworker,

Merry Christmas! Heres your taco

Merry Christmas! Here is your taco! Whats that you say? Well the first floor staff voted to have dinner served at work over having a party somewhere else. I am not complaining, I love free food. It was just off.Only night shift there, not managers or asst managers saying merry christmas but there were tacos..Woohoo..Its not really funny, okay it was.

Apparently, the catering people brought a large serviing of refriend beans and as she was unloading them, it fell on the floor..SHe picked it up and told them that they better eat them because she slaved away at them. I hope she had a better evening.

I worked THurs-Sat and I will say it was the hardest weekend I have had in while. Sat as I was getting ready to leave for work, I checked email and learned a patient had passed away. I was sad but relieved for the family.

Sunday morning, i came home, slept 2 hours and headed to lunch with Jeff and Val at O'Charleys..I had something different. While in college in TN, Ocharleys was a favorite especially the chicken tenders..They are not just chicken tenders but you must order them as CHicken O'tenders..I am just saying. We had to leave the lovely couple and finish shopping which we did and were home by 5..Oh yeah, I was tired. We e finished watching the movie "The Christmas Story" and I quickly fell asleep.

Got up, wrapped gifts, headed to the post office and waited inline to get things shipped. then I went to the store to get soda (4 packs of soda for 10bucks) and a puppy treat, got some fuel for the car and headed home. MIchael and I are both going soda free after Christmas along with other things but we didnt want to miss the deal. I came home, started some laundry, did some work on the kitchen and watched Santa Baby, a movie I recorded a few weeks ago..It was cute. Now I am checking email and going for my nap early.

What did you do this weekend?

Please keep the families listed below in your prayers along with friend Steven who is having atest done today to rule out some things..

Thats all for now.
I am so happy for the families who got their China babies this week! Maisie and Chloe are now with their forever families!!!!

Please take a moment and say a prayer for.......

Please pray for the families of Catie, Morgan and Catherine!!!!

1)Catie is a very special patient who is going through a hard week at home and mommy is 9 months pregnant!
2)Katherine is another special patient whose familiy I have grown to love. They have invited me to church many times and I adore them.
3)Morgan earned her angel wings yesterday. Although it was expected and she is no longer suffering, the family is grieving!

Long night at work...Some really sick kids. I hope they are all better and can go home for Christmas, but if not, I hope we can make it as pleasant as possible.

So, if you head on over to the adoption blog, you can read the events of the day!

All is well, and I am thankful for my new blogger friends. Most of you dont really know me, but i am usually lighthearted and positive. In fact, I am pretty silly at times and hubby Michael would agree to that! I am also thankful that there are so many believers in the blogger world. If you would, say a prayer for us this week that we do not get so discouraged over things that are happenning. There is nothing terribly bad going on in our lives. We are blessed beyond my imagination and i am feeling guilty for being a bit disappointed in events!!!!!!

To those of you who signed the adoption blog to pray for us, it means the world to me THANKS!!!!

Christmas time is here,

Rough Day! Woke up early, ready to get to work early for a meeting I have been working on for a few weeks regarding holiday Staffing. On my way out the door, I realized I left my keys in Michaels car which was 45 minutes away. I ended up conference calling but this still bummer me out. Michael and I were both tired and grumpy. It happens but its Christmas but being in a bad mood makes me cry. We walked the mall, attempted to shop and bought one single item and left. I could have cried the whole way home. I almost did. I was tired, discouraged and felt like I disappointed people, but whatever.

We got home and after a phone call decided on dinner and a game or movie with Jeff and Val which is the best thing that could have happened. We worked on a few Christmas decorations for the party this weekend and then watched Scene It where Michael won the game. Jeff won last time, so next time its time for the girls to win! We started watching POC2 and then we all got tired. I am so glad they came over, because it really helped to change my entire mood.

By the way, Lucy the basset hound got her Christmas costume today..Im just saying..

Peace out

Thursday 13

Thirteen Things about Amy

I was going to do 13 restaurants that have helped me become fluffier (I thought that was better word than tub o lard) but I decided to do something a bit more holidayish so here are 13 Christmas songs I love
1. O Holy Night- I judge every Christmas cd by this one. I prefer slow versions, like Josh Grobin but Sandy Patti and Josh Berry all have good ones.
2. Have yourself a merry little Christmas- my favorite non religious song
3.the christmas song that says woop-tee-doo in it. I am not sure of the title but it always makes me laigh
4.O Come All Ye Faithful- Favorite versions now done by Third Day and Steven Curtis Chapman
5.Happy Birthday Jesus- Younger cousin sang this when she was 5..Its precious if you have heard it
6.Christmas Shoes- just wonderful. Book and movie are good too
7.The First Noel - to me, the easiest Christmas song to play on the piano
8.Deck the Halls - my mom loves the version from The Christmas story where the Chinese waiters sing it for the family
9.Love Has Come -from the first Amy Grant Christmas cd- I just think of me and my brother and sister when I hear this one
10.Where are you Christmas? I love this song. Its from the Grinch movie by Faith Hill
11.We're not that far from Bethlehem- this is from the Point of Grace cd
12.Breath of Heaven- I think even the title is just beautiful
13.Mary Did you Know? MIchael English had a great version

You can hear a great song by Third Day on this site. Just skip the song playing on the audio thing. Also, check out www.thechristopherfamily.blogspot.com for another Christmas song related to adoption

random thoughts from the blog owner

So, random thoughts you say? Right now, its 2:08am I just decorated room 112 for our holiday theme and I am checking out blogs. Today I am feeling lazy. Truly lazy. I dont know why. Motivation is gone. Perhaps by writing these words, it will come back. BTW, room 112 is Greece since we are celebrating countries around the world and the holidays they have.

Whats on my mind? I dont even feel like I can be that honest because I dont know who will read this, while hoping some don't. Isnt that odd? I would never have started blogging if it had not been for Steven R! Someone told me to go to his website which led me to xanga which led me here. He has an interesting blog. He had a photo caption contest that was cool. Then there is Jeff, who presently has pics up of him and his lovely bride along with Michael and I at Lake Lanier last week. Then there is hubby MIchael, oh my hubby MIchael, who is a great writer and has interesting things to say. Today, he wrapped up our Sunday on his blog. I do recommend you checking them out for entertainment

Am I depressed? I dont think so. I really think that I have high expectations and I just realized it. I am disappointed in myself? Why>
1) The house is not as organized as I want it to be. I can do, but why dont't I?
2) I cry when I hear about people who are less fortunate, those in need. I want to help, but why don't I? Because I am lazy.
3)I wanted Christmas shopping and the house to be done by now and its not. Mind you, this is not MIchaels fault. Before I was married, I made time for everything what happenned? My fear is if we dont get traditions started, what will happen when we get back from China with this precious baby?
4) I cant find the time. I love night shift. I love night shift pay. I love my days off with hubby. Yet, I want to go to days. If you know me, the you know I am not a day shift nurse!
5)I love Atlanta and I do not want to move yet I want to be closer to family. Whats my problem? It is here that I am happy that Michaels dad and his wife live nearby.
6)I love Lucy but she is a pain. Is it because she is bad or is that I am too lazy to put things aways and that makes it easier for her to be bad?

As I write this, I get the morning admission list and I get to see the different children that are coming in tomorrow. I think of the parents and the children.

BTW, if you cry when you hear the Christmas shoes, there is a new song out. Mind you, I know how blessed I am and I try to appreciate all the things God has blessed me with. There is just a lot things on my mind right now. I am thankful that I made it to become a pediatric nurse, I really could not imagine doing anything else right now!

This holiday season is a special one. Every holiday season is special. I treasure every moment and memory I encounter. I love my friends and family. The fact that so many people have come into mylife in 2006 has been awesome! It has brought so many memories to me and its been great.

I know that very few people read this and its okay. I feel like I am just venting and when I am done, I usually feel much better. I look forward to day off with Michael on thursday and trivia on Wednesday...Good times will be had by all..

Keep checking over at www.thechristopherfamily.blogspot.com Will be adding the latest prayer requests soon!!!!

old friends and new

Its Friday night and sweet MIchael is sleeping. He only got about 4 1/2 hours last night and I hope he gets some needed rest over the weekend while I am working.

Whats been going on? Well Friday night, MIchael and I, along with Val and Jeff (Valfrey to some of you) headed to Smokey Bones for dinner, quick stop at the Christian Bookstore for some Christmas music and Lake Lanier for lights. Truly, we had fun..The weather was warm but I think we all had a good time. It was nice to spend some time with them. I was pretty sleepy by then, so I got kind of silly..Hope I didnt offend them!

Quick note..Well, not so quick. God is bringing old friends back into my life. It started at Jef and Vals wedding, where I saw Tracy. Tracy was my first college roomie. I saw Jenny H there as well who was another roomie. The next week, I get an email from the 4th and final roomie Jenny who found my blog by accident. It was great hearing about her.

I went to elementary and middle school in Rock Hill SC. I went to a private school and was active in the church. I can remember all of my classmates because we were in each grade together. Anyway, I have been thinking about the pastor of the church (who is still the pastor after 20 years) and his family because his wife passed away earlier this year. I sent him an email and got a quick response. His daughter quickly emailed me and it was just a neat thing to catch up on things. She is still friends with people we were in kindergarten with!

Im not sure whats going on, but I love reliving memories and even Jeff and Val mentioned names I had forgotten about.

If any Union Alumn read this, there is a group of people trying to get a large amount of 1997 graduates to homecoming as this is our 10 year mark. I promised my friend I would at least mention it.

Wanna feel old? Check out www.Valtool.blogspot.com and look at the videos!!!

Thirteen Things about Amy
This week since this is the time of year to give, I am going to list 13 c harities that I would love
to give lots of money to as well as the reasons why

1…. Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta This is where I work. As per hubbys blog, according to Forbes, we are the 3rd best Pediatric Hospital in the country. I am honored to take care of the patients and families that I do.

2. Make a Wish Foundation Many Patients of mine have been given trips which has brightened their lives. Make a wish provides dreams to children with long term illnesses

3.Salvation Army- I would love to be able to help provide things for others

4. American Brain Tumor association I have taken care of so many patients with brain tumors that I want to help find a cure

5.American Cancer Society This effects so many people each year

6.Caringbridge Most people dont know of caringbridge. They provide websites for patients and families. Many families tell me how therapeutic this is to them

7.Epilepsy Foundation ANother diagnosis I have learned a lot about over the last 5 years. Seizures not only effect the patient, but all who know the child

8.Give Kids the World Many of my families have stayed here and have loved it

9.Habitat for Humanity I would love to be involved in this and help families get into new homes

10.Toys for Tots I want to spend lots of money here. How cool would it be to provide every child with a dream toy?

11.Ronald McDonald House This provides a place for families to stay when their children are hospitalized. It really takes a stress off of the families

12. Atlanta Community Food Bank Enough said. They provide food for thousands year round. Another thing I would love to be a part of

13.World Vision they sponsor children in countries all over the world to provide clothing, food and education

There are so many more I could mention and I wish I could help each one. Take the time to put yourself in others shoes this holiday season.

Organization ideas, etc

I need help. Lots of help. I need to get organized. Any ideas? Im thinking about trying Flylady again and I am hoping she will not kick me out. Seriously, my dad is the most organized person in the world, we are all wondering why I didnt get it from him. I am just venting. My hubby does his best and Lucy doesnt make it any better. We have been in our home for 2 years now, and we still have boxes to unpack. By the time we leave for China, I really want our house in better shape. I love my home, I just need better organizational skills?????

Weekend events

Well, I worked Fri and Sat nights and it was pretty uneventful except for some unusually sad cases that had my brain full both nights. Sunday morning, I got home after a Publix run and helped clean the house for the arrival of sister Kelly and family. I went ahead and called in to work (i didnt say sick)because I dont get the chance to see them that much and they didnt have much time. I think I slept for about 60-90 minutes before they got there and we had a great time with Janie 5, Seth 4, Owen 17 months. Owen found the kitty litter box although he didnt get the chance to touch..Thank God. After lunch, we chatted and let the kids decorate the bottom of the tree. They fought over who put the pretty ones up. I should have a pic up soon.

After they left, we watched some movies as told my Valtool or aka my husband. Had dinner, watched some more movies and then I crashed and woke up at 10am this morning. MIchael is getting off early so we should be able to venture out today.

Work is pretty good. We are having our Christmas gathering December 10th including a Christmas lunch thing followed by movie watching with friends. IF you are available, I hope you stop by. A good time was had by all

OH, the journal entry was not done by me..I googled Christmas movies last night and thats what it pulled up. I just added my opinions on some.

Christmas Movies

Apparently, there are a lot more movies than I previously listed. Its now 430 am at work and honestly I am bored..The patients are asleep and I am done chatting..Just wondering what your thoughts are on these.. My thoughts on these will be in red. If no one reads this, its okay. I am bored.
Found this on the internet:

Bad Santa . may be the trashiest Christmas movie i have seen. It makes fun of a little boy and a little person...not cool..there was one funny line in this!
Bishop's Wife, The (1947) -- An angel helps an Episcopalian bishop rearrange his priorities. I have never seen this
A Christmas Carol (1951 and later versions) -- Charles Dickens' ghostly meditation on the holiday. A classic. I wish I had time to watch this every year
Christmas Child (2003) -- A life-sized nativity leads a man to learn about his past.
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) -- Fibbing columnist must entertain war hero for the holidays.
A Christmas Story (1983) -- All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. Enough said. I could watch this the whole season. I love the kid in line behind Ralphie at the mall
Christmas with the Kranks (2004) -- With daughter away, parents decide to skip Christmas. YOu cant skip Christmas..Apparently this is a book. I didnt read it..I liked the movie
Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) -- Furry green creature wants to ruin the holiday. The Soundtrack rocks. I love Whos
Deck the Halls (2006) -- Neighbours fight over who has the best Christmas lights.
Elf (2003) -- A human, raised at the North Pole, searches for his family in New York. There are so many one liners in this movie. I wont even start but I loved this movie
Ernest Saves Christmas (1988) -- Everyman-type Ernest helps Santa. I actually forgot about these movies
The Family Stone (2005) -- Uptight woman wants acceptance from eccentric clan at Christmastime. Sara Jessica Parker was in this. I have no need to buy this movie. It wasnt what I expected at all
Holiday Inn (1942) -- Musicians prepare for a white Christmas at cosy lodge.
I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998) -- A college student finds it hard to get home for the holidays. There are 2 7th Heaven stars in this. I think I am the only who saw this. I really liked it
It's A Wonderful Life (1946) -- Classic tale, climaxing at Christmas, of a man who gets to see what his hometown would be like had he never lived. Just started watching this a few years ago but how can you not like it?
Jingle All the Way (1996) -- Dad, while searching for season's hot toy, finds season's true meaning. Never saw the whole thing
Joyeux Noël (2005) -- World War I trenches go silent during the "Christmas truce" of 1914.
Miracle on 34th Street (1947), remade (1973 & 1994) -- Macy's Santa, with help from the U.S.Postal Service, restores little girl's faith. Loved both of them, but I prefer the first
The Nativity Story (2006) -- The story of the first Christmas.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) -- As usual, Griswold family plans turn to disaster, this time at Christmas. How can you not watch this every single year and not laugh?
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) -- Inhabitants of Halloween land do a number on Christmas. Michael had me watch this last year and although its not your usual Christmas movie, I liked it
The Polar Express (2004) -- Magical train takes riders north. It has a few boo hoo moments but what a great movie..Saw it at IMAX last year with 200 preschoolers with colds
Prancer (1989) -- Girl nurses wounded reindeer. This is old..I remember it. I liked it
Preacher's Wife, The (1996) -- Remake of The Bishop's Wife. One of my favorites of old times. Whitney did a great soundtrack and I loved the story line
Remember the Night (1940) -- DA falls for Christmastime shoplifter.
Scrooged (1988) -- Dickens' holiday spirits visit cynical TV exec. Another classic. cant wait to watch this again except that one lady still gets on my nerves
Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) -- Biopic for the fat man in the red suit. Loved it..Will watch the 3rd movie sometime this season..
The Santa Clause (1994) and sequels -- Santa's accidental killer takes over his job. Even better than the 1st because it had the cute kid in it and the chick from Friends
Surviving Christmas (2004) -- A young millionaire pays a family to spend Christmas with him. Aflleck was in it and it wasnt as bad as reported. Will watch it again. Wont buy it
Trapped in Paradise (1994) -- Kindly town's hospitality melts Christmas burglars' hearts.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas (1914) -- A boy gets a ride in Santa's sleigh. I saw it but dont remember it
Unaccompanied Minors (2006) -- Board kids make up thier own holidays while stuck in an airport after Christmas.
We're No Angels (1955) -- A trio of escaped convicts helps a man and his wife avoid financial ruin and help their daughter find romance on Christmas Eve.
White Christmas (1954) -- As in Holiday Inn, musicians bring Irving Berlin's lyrics to Vermont lodge. I still havent seen it, but Valerie said it was good and she loves Christmas as well, so I guess I will watch it
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983) -- A church Christmas pageant touches the hearts of a family of jeuvenile deliquents. I saw this years ago. Remember the book? Many childhood memories here
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) -- Charlie Brown searches for the true meaning of Christmas, by directing a Christmas play while shunning the hyper-comercialization of Christmas.
The Christmas Box"" (1995) -- Based on the bestselling book of the same name, a couple and their daughter move in with a widow and discover a box containg the answer to the first gift of Christmas. This was on last year and I watched it. I loved the book but this was even better. If you have on demand, it should be on again. JOhn Boy is in it. I think he directed it as well
The Christmas Secret (2000) -- Scientist tries to make reindeers fly.
Home for Christmas (1990) -- A thief befriends a young boy at Christmas.
The Homecoming: A Christmas Story (1971) Pilot episode of [[The Waltons]] where John Boy searches for his father on Christmas Eve.
The House Without a Christmas Tree (1972) -- A widower, still grieving from his wife's death, refuses to allow a Christmas tree in the home, to the dismay of his young daughter.
Like Father, Like Santa (1998) -- Greedy business man travels to the North Pole to takeover Santa's workshop.
Mrs. Santa Claus (1996) -- Santa's wife ends up in New York in the early 1900s near Christmas.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) Claymation adaptation of the popular song where Rudolph, and Hermey the Misfit Elf, overcome rejection for their differences and help Santa Claus make his Christmas Eve trip. Yeah for Rudolph. Another classic
Stealing Christmas (2003) -- A criminal hides in a small town and takes a job as a Santa.
Santa Jr. (2002) -- Santa's son, mistaken for the 'Christmas Bandit,' is held under house arrest two days before Christmas.
Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus (1974) -- An animated account of young Virginia O'Hanlon's letter to the editor inquiring on the truth of Santa Claus.

Black Christmas (1974, remade 2006) -- A stranger terrorizes sorority girls during the holiday break.
Bush Christmas (1947, remade 1983) -- Aussie children quest for stolen horses at Christmas time.
Die Hard (1988) -- on Christmas Eve, terorists seize control of an LA skyscrapper. My hubby has been telling me this was a Christmas movie for a long time. Havent seen it nor do I plan on seeing it
Die Hard 2 (1990) -- Terrorists take over an airport at Christmas Eve.
The Family Man (2000) -- Flimsy remake of It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Loved this..The little girl was stinkin cute..Wonderful
Gremlins (1984) -- Bad things happen when Christmas gift gets wet. If Die hard is Christmas movie, then I guess this is as well
Holiday Affair (1949) -- Romance blooms between a young widow and a sales clerk at Christmastime.
Home Alone (1990) -- Accidentally abandoned kid defends home from holiday burglars. It just me, but this was really Christmasy. I loved it! I think I will be watching it by myself this year

Jack Frost (1996) -- Dead serial killer comes back as snowman.
Jack Frost (1998) -- Dad gets second chance as snowman. This was okay..It was a sweet movie
Lethal Weapon (1987) -- A young suicidal cop spends the holidays with a veteran officer and his family.
Love Actually (2003) -- Britons, including hottie prime minister, seek love as Christmas approaches. Didnt like it the first time, but now love it..Great soundtrack and the old man cracker me up

The Ref (1994) -- Burglar mediates bickering family at Christmastime.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) -- Cult film with self-explanatory title.
The Shop Around the Corner (1940) -- Bickering store clerks pine for pen pals as holidays approach. This has to be the place from YOu've Got Mail, right?

Christmas videos and breaking eggs

Michael has some old Christmas videos up and one I had not seen before. I thought I had seen them all but one was new to me..

Check it out here

By the way, I made Thanksgiving dinner for myself, Michael, Peter and and Gary since family was not in town.I think it was very successful. I did boil some eggs for the gravy, drained the water and put them back on the stove and turned the burner off. I began to boil the potatos until I hear Splat and turned around and my boiled eggs blew up..Uhm, next time I will check to see what burner I turn on

Amys truly Random thoughts

I haven't posted anything serious in a while and I am not sure this will make any sense to you.
I have doing a lot of thinking about myself and how people view me. I think the 2 are totally different and I am not sure if that is good or not or if I should even work on that.

We had a counseling session where it was made clean that I have a strong personality. Many people do. At work, I am the laid back, nonassertive type of nurse. That's just me. I do have a few OCD things about me, but I am very much a type B personality. Its always easier to pick out things you don't like about others and its the same with me. I have many issues, may people know that. I don't mean, like hidden secrets in a closet, or issues from my past I need to work on. I rarely trust people, even my friends. People call me paranoid. I try to be responsible for others actions. If my sister or brother ever made a comment to someone that was mean, I would quickly add "what he meant was.." I don't like to see people hurt. I cry easy. I cry really easy on really stupid things..For example, I boohooed the entire viewing of Monsters Inc. I don't know what.It was not hormones. But my niece Janie was about 2 at the time, and she looks just like Boo. It was horrible when the monster scared her. That's a whole story.
Another example, Michael and I watched the movie Radio. As soon as Cuba Gooding Jr appeared, I used every napkin we were going to use for our popcorn. I find it odd I never cried this easy when I was single. My friends always knew I put up a front and pretended I didn't care much. I hate to see people made fun of in the movies, tv or life. I put myself in their shoes and wonder how they feel. I hate that feeling. Am I totally whacked.

I think about this coming season and the kids who don't have Christmas, who don't have a family. I want to fix that. In college, I "adopted" many families and bought Christmas gifts for the families and kids. I want to do that again. I want the money to help others. I want to see people smile. I want people to have what I have. I don't want to cry anymore. I have to turn off Katrina shows because of videos they show.

I know that many people are like me and cry over these things. But tell me, how many people cry at the Foldgers coffee commercial when the son comes home from college and wakes his family up by making coffee? That's just wrong. Anything, that has these family "moments" makes me tear up. Perhaps its the fear of not having these moments. I had a childhood full of wonder and magic and surprise. My parents introduced me to the love of God, and I will always be thankful for that. Bare with me, I warned you these were random thoughts.

I am not trying to get jerry Maguire on you. I am selfish. Typing these words makes me feel better. I am sure I will be posting on more events that make me cry. Being a pediatric nurse on neuro floor where I take care of patients with brain tumors and other conditions doesn't really help either.
I am going to stop now so I can get ready for this season!

Happy Thanksgiving friends,

Amy

General blog entry.

Not too much going on today..Starting to stress over Thanksgiving dinner, but I have done it before so I know its okay..

Now to promote hubbys blog since apparently I am promoted my own way too much (thank you Jeff and Michael, I know you were kidding)

Hubby is doing Friday Flashback over at www.valtool.blogspot.com which will include old videos more than likely from the 80s. I will not promote again until he plays a song by NKOTB so that may be a while.

The Christmas season has arrived. Cold weather, Christmas music, decorations, parties, I love it. The only way this holiday season could be better is if we were in a home church. We will attend Christmas Eve services somewhere, but I miss the feeling of being near friends you call family. Ya know? SO that's what's on my mind plus working on adoption things.

For those of you who have children, how has the Christmas season changed for you???

Thirteen Vacation ideas I would love and why!
1…. 2 week Disney Magic Cruise. Michael and I have done this 2 1/2 times and I have loved it. Even when it rains, they make sure you have a good time. We dont have kids yet and loved it. There is plenty of things for adults to do!
2.Maine in the fall I want to take Michael there. I think it would be romantic. Dad took us for a week a few years ago and we had a great time. We saw whales and everything. Loved the weather in September
3.Orlando, Florida. We have family there which is why this wont happen. I want to spend 7-10 days on Disney property..Somewhere nice, hopefully expensive. Mind you, these are dreams and what could be perfect. I cant wait until we get our daughter and she is old enough to go.
4.Somewhere in Canada. Maybe where Anne of Greene Gables is at. I think it was called Prince Edward Island
5.San Diego Primarily for the zoo. I hear it takes a few days to go through
6.London We spend a week there, but it wasnt enough. I would love to go there
7.A resort somewhere where everything is included. That would be awesome
8.hawaii. it could be a cruise or just visiting different islands. That would be fun
9. Alaska
10.Texas Im not sure whats even there but it would be cool
11.Roadtrip to see where we grew up. This would include my sister and we would go to Midlothian Va and Rock Hill SC
12.Italy. This has recently become an interest because of books I have read. It seems quite romantic
13. 2 weeks in China Oh wait! I am going there and I am bringing home a small child! Yippee!Links to other Thursday Thirteens!

Monday Memory

Lets see. I love memories! Most of my memories involve my younger sister Kelly whose children have been featured here.

I remember my family taking me to college. I went to a small Southern Baptist college called Union University.. I had a dorm with 3 other girls and we had a kitchen. As much as I wanted to prepare by buying things, my mom said "You aren't setting up an apartment, you dont need all that"? We learned that I actually did need that as the other girls had packed well. Dad and Kelly made a run for Kmart or Target and purchased me things so that I wouldnt feel like such a dork. I never felt like a dork and I am still friends with my roomies, so I guess it worked out well. Kelly was my interior decorator. She tried to make it pretty but there wasnt much to work at..

Then there was that Thanksgiving that Kelly told me to wear a vest over a shirt and not to tuck the shirt in. We now agree I looked like a dork. Thanks Kelly, I will think of you this holiday season!!!!

Life Love and Happiness

Have you ever just loved life? I dont mean, to just be in a good mood, but to just love the fact that you are alive..I am having one of those moments for a lot of reasons and I wanted to share..

Another tidbit about me..I used to not cry.. I now cry over every thing, seriously everything. Its very odd. But I now know thats okay.

I cried on my way to work. Why you may say? Do not laugh. I cried because I pulled up beside a huge SUV and noticed there was a movie playing. What movie? Frosty the Snowman. I cried because the kids were watching Christmas movies and the family was on a trip..The whole idea of stuff like that is sentimental and I can not wait to do things like that. My family gave me great memories that I will always cherish.

I have a special patient that I have been caring for for many weeks. I love her, I love her family and its been a rough stay. She has not felt good for a long time. As I started my shift, I quickly went to her room to say hello. I was greeted by the sweetest smile I have ever seen. Oh yeah, my eyes quickly teared up as I talked to her parents..These are the moments I love pediatric nursing.

My hubby, oh how I love my hubby. We have strong relationship. Its not perfect and we have recently learned our strengths and weaknesses, but I love it. Maybe I am just being sentimental, but I love everything we have done in the past 5 years and I am excited about the future. We have just been having a lot of fun together lately.Whether its trivia, movies or talking, we have enjoyed each other and I absolutely love to brag about him..... Go over and say hi to him over at www.valtool.blogspot.com He has started a new weekly posting that everyone will enjoy..Go ahead, say hi. Send your hubbies there. My hubby will not advertise his blog, so I will for him. When you get to know my hubby, you learn that he is the most sarcastic, fun loving, warm hearted dude in the world

We have a stressful day coming upon us. Our social worker will be visiting us sometime to go over the house. But you can all about the adoption stuff here.

My Michael rocks!!

Its the fall. The weather is awesome. Christmas music has started. People are nice and I am just happy.. Oh, I have bad days but life is good!!!!!

Thirteen days with my Michael

1…. Thursday 13
Thirteen memorable moments with my Michael over the past 6 years

1. Our wedding week-nothing will ever be more perfect or more romantic
2. Michael surprised me by taking me to a Dixie Chicks concert while we were dating
3. The Christopher Cruise-a good time was had by all
4. The adoption orientation- it was full of hope and promise
5. The day we picked up our first dog, Lucy the Basset hound
6. The day my Michael came to my apartment to cheer me up and I almost didn’t let him in. We watched The Pirate Movie and I fell in love with him then
7. My first holiday season in my first apartment and Michael planted a Christmas tree and hung lights while I was at work, and cleaned the apartment and made sure Christmas music was on
8. Thanksgiving 2 years ago. My parents were here and his mom and we had a great time.
9. Our first movie date...to see The Replacements
10. 9/11 Not only did we witness the event on TV together, hours later we found out we were moving to Atlanta
11. This past year, when I got a new bed and I was surprised. Michael had it delivered while we were on our anniversary
12. Every Parrot head event. All of them have been fun. Truly, Michael has made me a Buffet fan
13. The night Michael drove me to Birmingham and led me to believe we were going to see Bon Jovi, but we were actually going to see Steven Curtis Chapman and get a meet and great. This was one of the first times; the idea of adopting from China entered our hearts.

On my mind

There is not a lot on my mind but the following things

1) Hubby posted today at www.valtool.blogspot.com It was about football and I still dont get football

2) I am the only person excited that 90210 comes out on Tuesday. Seriously, I followed Dylan, Brenda, Brandon and the rest of the gang weekly for many years

3) There are cool Christmas movies coming out

4) I want to be awake on Sundays so I can go to church

5) We have a lot to do in the next couple of months which should be fun

This is just a list of things. Perhaps my brain is just not working at its best because I have caught a cold..A yucky cold. I do love cuddle weather, but I guess I should wear a coat or jacket when I have to walk in the cuddle weather..Thats really all I have to say.

Seriously people, the name poll went in a direction I was not expecting. I promise I have not voted but the names people like are the not the ones I expected. Its pretty cool. Click here to Vote

Have a good Sunday.

Thursday 13

Thirteen Things about The Howell-Rushing Wedding

Thursday 13
Thirteen things about the Rushing Howell/Howell-Rushing wedding weekend

1. Jeff and Val were married.
2. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception
3. I saw friends from college that I had not seen in years. Jenny and Steven are another lovely couple. I lived with Jenny one summer and she was also a neighbor for a few years. I have gotten a few my space messages from Kevin and Robyn and I got to meet them. Too much fun!!!! They have not changed. They both made me laugh!!!
4. I had lunch with old college roomies Jenny and LeeAnne before the ceremony
5. I spent the weekend in Jackson, Tn at Sara B’s house and got to play with her puppy
6. I met several Rushing family members who I have been exchanging emails and blogposts with over the past few months. All of which are very cool
7. I had dinner at O’Charleys, my favorite restaurant in college
8. Michael and I had lunch (not really, just visited) with his dad on the way home
9. The weather could not have been any prettier..
10. Jeff and Val looked gorgeous, happy, giddy, in love, etc.
11. I got to talk to Jeff’s grandma who gets online. She is a pretty cool lady
12. My husband and Jenny’s husband enjoyed using the disposable camera on the table
13. We walked around the church, including the nursing wing. We looked at the baby names on the door and realized that many people use city and states for their children’s names.

To summarize, it was a lovely, beautiful, romantic weekend. Truly a good time was had by all!!!!!!! I am blessed and honored to have been invited. See other posts for details regarding the lovely couple who are now honeymooning in Jamaica!
I can not wait for them to get settled in, as they will be living in Atlanta and will be available for socializing.

To anyone who was there, I enjoyed meeting you and hope to see you again sometime!

Halloween results

The night was fun. We had many power rangers and some very cute supermen. There were no wiggles this year!!! Yes. We did have a femal suma wrestler which was really cute and 2-3 year old unicorn..The unicorn really loved Lucy and wasnt afraid at all. Lucy jumped on her a few times and she just laughed and laughed..There were a few teens with no costumes. We did have a child ring our bell 5-6 times and when we answered he said" your house is cool, how much is it?" the kid was 7-8 and i have no idea where that came from...

What about you? Any interesting comments!

its Halloween

The trick or treaters should be arriving in a few hours and I want to guess the popular costumes for the evening. The radio stations have said that superheroes and pirates were going to be number one, but apparently several people dressed up as steve irwin this weekend including the stingray...how insensitive can you be?

I am hoping there are no Wiggles this evening, but I am not sure I will be so lucky. I didnt get Lucy a costume which means she will dressing up for Christmas..Poor Lucy the bassett hound. We shall see.

I have tomorrow off and then Thursday we are working on adoption things like meeting with the social worked and getting our police clearance. All is well.
Uhm, thanks for reading this..

People, please go to www.thechristopherfamily.blogspot.com and vote on baby names. I put margaret on there because I know MIchael likes it..It can not win. Please help. As much as I would like to cheat and vote myself, I will be brave and strong and will not do that.
On another note, someone (aka Steven) placed a comment that he liked the name Ari. Whats odd is that my friend Yancey will be having a Greek baby Ari on Christmas day!!!! It is a pretty name..

So, if you dont like the name, give us another idea. We have a long wait ahead of us!

Life goes on

Well, the work week started again. Its been a good night and I am looking forward to the trick or treaters. MIchael and I have a good time doing that and we cant wait to take our kids their in a few years.
There is not much going on here except work, keeping the house clean or getting the house clean and adoption paperwork. Lucy came back today and she has been pretty good. We are happy we had her trained and will be going back for our training reinforcements soon.
Whats next? Saving money, getting organized and staying happy.

We really enjoyed our weekend for old and new friends and one day I will be happy to move. I am thinking Nashville would be nice. I would love to work at Vanderbuilt. Tn just seems nice. I do not plan on moving, but if it came about I would be happy. Where would you like to move to?

On another note, we can not move until we get our referral. Check out the the adoption blog at www.amychristopher.blogspot.com for updates on that and to vote on a name!
